Porn biopics/films had always tend to reach a certain degree of pretentiousness, having their career life in the porn industry documented on film always result on being corny. On the other hand, Rated-R films that contain amounts of sex within a great story such as George C Scott's Hardcore pertains to be a exception due to delivering a story about a father in search of his daughter whom disappear into the clutches of the porn industry.

Director Sebastian Gutierrez known for Elektra Luxx trilogy, from Women in Trouble, Girl Walks Into a Bar - about the lives of ten different women and sex as well as the success of Elektra Luxx in the porn industry. Is at it again with another installment of Elektra Luxx - after her success of a successful actress in the porn industry, retires to teaches Sex Ed but flight attendant, Cora (Marley Shelton) delivers surprising news and is apparently pregnant. Meanwhile porn blogger, Bert (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) makes amateur films with his crappy camera. Also Timothy Olyphant plays a private investigator Del who taken interest with a number of Elektra's friends and Elektra and a naked guy who gets invited to Elektra's apartment.

Carla Gugino returns as successful porn actress, Elektra Luxx does a fantastic job of not only looking hot in this film but delivering witty and great dialogue especially for a fictitious biopic - usually porn films that deliver a sort of storyline fails flat only relying on sex -- this however delivers in both fronts though withstanding less graphic sex scenes. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is however disappointing especially in the intro, it felt like he's doing what he can within the script and his character doesn't match and the fact that it's a bad casting choice. Timothy Olyphant however was great albeit he only appears as a cameo appearance in this movie, nothing else as the private investigator.

At first, I felt cynical with this film, making a fictitious biopic about the life of Elektra Luxx which emulates like other "sex stories" porn films that litter in the porn industry. Specifically that Gutierrez added the editing, lighting and camera focus which makes it somewhat into a porn film that happens to transition into sex scenes. With a flashy and artistic intro, a solid and great script that works with delivering great lines of the cast to having a story, no less of the aftermath of Elektra Luxx's life being pregnant is something worth watching for. Though sometimes the editing can be something to not desired for.

Sidney Lumet's Network takes hard journalism to a satirical level and since that time this film had predicted many prophetic overtones that towards this generation's sensational news.

Peter Finch plays a long-time news anchor, Howard Beale but then as UBS' rating rises, he becomes a mad prophet having his own sensational show but as the insane ramblings continue to rise, the ratings fall and UBS has no choice to assassinate him.

The idea of envisioning the "prophetic overtones" of the future is haunting at first but really intriguing to watch, credit goes to Paddy Chayefsky for making a excellent screenplay alongside with director Sidney Lumet (12 Angry Men).

Peter Finch won best actor for this motion picture and highly deserves it, he's just remarkable in this movie as a maniac prophet who constantly sprouting the truth to his infamous, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!".

Such terrific performance by Faye Dunaway as Diana Christensen, William Holden as Howard's longtime friend, Max Schumacher and UBS' President, Frank Hackett played by Robert Duvall. This movie is almost perfect for me in a professional and critical way which isn't my favourite movies of all time but it takes the cake.

The idea/concept of law versus justice is absurd at first but interesting to watch - having a person face a huge corporation head-on and doing what's right for those who's suffered through such as well as their own. A Civil Action did this with the exception of greed, Jan Schlictmann is a injury lawyer going after a huge company but failed due to his divided justice.

Two years after, we see a similar movie, Erin Brockovich. It's setting/story is different but the concept stays the same - a person goes after a billion-dollar company after polluting a town's water supply causing negative side effects to families in that town and this person tries everything she can to find evidence to incriminate this company and sacrificing everything to administer justice.

It's just the same thing but having a unemployed mother and beauty queen, Erin Brockovich getting help from a small firm lawyer, Ed Masry against the company who contaminated the water supply. As well as sacrificing herself working tireless days on this case while her kids were forced to have a caretaker and finding a friendly biker boyfriend to take care of her kids. Furthermore, this is based on a true story like A Civil Action and it's large lawsuit but unlike A Civil Action, Erin and Ed won the lawsuit and Jan lost his whole firm, his wealth and reportedly decided to take the case again but failed.

The performances by Julia Roberts as a "earthly" mother of three children as Erin Brockovich portrays her well, so well that she won a Oscar for the lead role. Albert Finney provides a excellent performance as a small firms' lawyer, Ed Masry. Overall it's a great movie based on a true story revolving around the idea of the struggles of finding justice for the families against a huge company and even the real Erin Brockovich cameoed in this movie.

I considered this film to be underrated and under-appreciated, it got tons of action-packed moments, ultranationalists Russians and being a huge inspiration for Modern Warfare. Sure The Rock is the inspiration but Russian rebels and tensions with Russian and the US is so much like Modern Warfare.

Albeit being highly political as well as derivative seeing that around the decade that this film has been released when a number of movies has the same premise to it. It's just being overshadowed as one of those movies and comparing other of those movies including Peacemaker which I adored, this just has better action sequences of the President of the United States being endangered and the political realities that troubles Washington with terrorists' demands and such.

Though a one man-army as the President Marshall didn't really go for me, the beginning with the terrorists parachuting down silently and sniping guards one by one to F-15s retaliating back to the Ultranationists MiGs is just popcorn-entertainment.

The CG and Special Effects is presents itself alot and explosions, after explosions, after explosions is just intense and exhilarating. Wolfgang Petersen who also directed Das Boot made a movie just for me, well, Peacemaker did that for me but having a President as well as his family being endangered by terrorists and tons of moments of people sacrificing themselves for the President as well as the action-packed cramped hallway of the Air Force One while the Secret Service is pushing the President to the escape shuttle is.. no other movie has that type of being more action-packed but still the dialogue is zanie sometimes with Gary Oldman character, Ivan pretending to have a Russian accent. This movie is like Die Hard but what if John McClane is the President trapped on Air Force One?

The Town tries to be both Point Break and Heat (in fact they show a clip from this movie) at the same time.. result comes up as a decent heist movie. As much as I hate Ben Assfleck and his movies, this could potentially be his better role as well as directing quality.

The screenplay on the other hand is horrible, there are moments in the dialogue that seems awkward and bad especially specifically parts with Affleck and Rebecca Hall. Anyways it sets in Boston as a group of Bank robbers from Charleston rob a bank - like Point Break, they do it professionally with disguises, destroying cameras and destroying evidence like in Heat.

One former female hostage, Claire Keesay was also taken due to suspicions of the group and was blind-folded and dumped near edge of nowhere. Fearing that Claire will tell on the authorities, Doug one of the leaders gets caught up with a romance with her. Though the FBI is also on their trail due to the number of armed robberies that they partake in, S.A Adam Frawley is taking over the investigation to arrest them.

Like I said, Ben Affleck is horrible at acting but his performance in this movie is alright - ever since his role in Good Will Hunting. The others, Jeremy Renner as Doug's friend and robber, James/Jem Coughlin, Rebecca Hall as Claire, Chris Cooper as Doug's Father and Jonn Hamm as Adam Frawley delivers a good performance though with a bad script to act on.

The action scenes are intense and epic, as a cops/FBI and robbers film, it does great justice during the robbery and car chase scenes where the streets are narrow and cars crashing each other and the group of robbery robbing a bank professionally compensates the crappy dialogue. This film is engaging overall as a heist film and potentially more of a improvement of Affleck's career choice.

Shanghai stars John Cusack as an American expat, Paul Soames returning back to Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II after his friend Connor died, causing him to investigate the cause behind the death as well as the mob boss, and his wife and a Japanese commander who is leading the operations here.

Swedish Director, Mikael Hafstrom who recently directed The Rite tries to convey the setting and era that this film takes place as a 40s noir film filled with inner monologues with Cusack's character in a gangster/detective world of Shanghai as well as espionage and betrayal.

The cinematography reinvents Shanghai into looking like a Japanese-occupied Shanghai during that time, which it's a mixed bag due to the countless of films, whether foreign or not depicting Shanghai. It's just derivative of it's part though adding a film-noir aesthetic to it redeems the unoriginality.

Performances by the cast are excellent; Cusack delivers a redeemable role (2012) as a subtle yet calm Paul Soames, Li Gong since her amazing role in Memoirs of a Geisha provides a charming and alluring performance as Anna Lan-Ting, Chow-Yun Fat as the underground crime/mafia boss delivers a outstanding performance as a secretive mob boss as well as Ken Watanabe who plays a cruel and vile Tanaka.

This set piece that Hafstrom created is yet a good film to watch though due to the countless of films depicting the Japanese-occupation of China, it's derivative of being another Chinatown or another foreign war movie.

Harry Brown doesn't deliver something new to the table - it's pretty much a revenge/vigilante tale about a windower forced to take the law into his own hands after his friend was killed by cocaine-fulled thugs/gangs.

It's a cross between Taxi Driver, Gran Torino and Death Wish II, specifically of Gran Torino and Death Wish II of "old man lives in the bad side of town with gangs harassing and murdering innocent civilians, police is no where to be found, later on it was revealed that he served in the military and takes the law into his own hands, by administering justice to the gangs and.. either be killed or walk away.

Simple revenge tale but.. the hallmark of this film is the performance by Michael Caine.. delivering a serious and brilliant and also best performance of 2010 as a revengeful widower whose once served in the marines that we rarely seen in film or his recent film career choice.

Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island) plays a police investigator, Alice Frampton who is investigating the deaths of Leonard, Harry's best friend and later the trail of deaths of drug-addicts/gangsters provides a solid performance as well as Iain Glen as the Super Intendant and David Bradley as Leonard. Overall, the progression of the film is something that you must first watch to embrace and not enjoy it as a cliché film.

The American doesn't try to be an action-packed thriller, the trailer sells itself short of thinking it's an action movie leaving many disappointed of the final product, though it felt more like True Grit in a sense that mostly the portion of the movie isn't action-packed.

The movie itself from my point of view is quite a great psychological drama, it's like In Bruges but less retarded and more sophisticated. The story, Jack is an assassin who wants to leave the business when his job went downhill in Sweden. When met in Rome, his employer requests one last job for him and Jack hides out in the Italian countryside but assassins are trying to go after him.

When I compare this to In Bruges; Assassin/Hitman's job goes bad, hides in another country and everyone dies in the ending - The American also hits those notes of having a lone assassin transverse on coffee shops, walking through tight spaces, a priest that offered residence to him, target practicing, assembling his silenced sniper rifle, meeting other assassins to having sex with a prostitute, Clara. That's pretty much it that the movie has to offer and provides a low-key tone for a definitive assassin-esque movie.

Sometimes a remake could happen to be better than the original, True Grit while it isn't closely based on John Wayne's version - it happens to focus more of the 1968 novel by Charles Portis. Though I hate the fact that everyone thinks this is some sort of remake to the original.

Anyways, True Grit is about a young 14 year-old girl, Mattie Ross who hires a well-known U.S Marshall to track down the man who killed her father. Like any movies, this character at first has complications with the other characters who is apparently, Rooster Cogburn and another U.S Marshall, La Boeuf as Mattie marks a 50$ bounty to Rooster to kill Tom Chaney and take his body to the authorities but in one condition, Mattie wants to be there to see that execution and finally have her revenge.

Performances by Jeff Bridges as a reluctant and lazy, U.S Marshall, Rooster Cogburn, Matt Damon as another U.S Marshall tracking down Chaney, Josh Brolin as drunken Tom Chaney and surprisingly, Hailee Steinfeld as a revengeful young Mattie Ross are outstanding and excellent.

While the main performance and a true adaptation to the novel is the high-point of this movie - the flaws of this movie is the ending of this movie, it felt like it's too rushed and swallow like they wanted to end the movie quickly.. and the rest of the movie kinda felt dull, it's mostly composed of them riding through fields and forests towards the Indian country with a little hilarious commentary by Rooster (i.e, kicking Indians, getting drunk) and that's pretty much it.... oh plus a midget that pops out of nowhere. But overall, I think this movie is much better than the 1969 version.

George Romero has been rehashing his old films lately – especially with the ‘’of the Dead” series. It’s seems like directors these days cannot pull out something that isn’t a remake or sequel and make it either different to the original story or the same. George Romero’s 1973 thriller hit, The Crazies just had a make-over with decent characters, casting and a somewhat unique premise than its original.

Surprisingly the setting isn’t based upon the original film - which was set in a small town in Pennsylvania – setting in a small town called Ogden Marsh in Iowa. Timothy plays Sheriff, who after shooting a presumed drunk person was not been drinking and then stumbles across that he isn't drunk. Soon, others are similar to the drunk person as the town is infested with them and the military comes to quarantine. But realizing that it's too much the military decide to destroy the town. David and Russell, the deputy of this town with Judy had to survive through the almost 28 days later but even worst 'zombies'. Many critics had responded to this movie as something unique and terrifying but watching this remake, I wasn't scared at all.

There are moments that I know before hand because I've watched tons of horror movies to know that the clichè is coming next and therefore I never got scared. As for the casting, Timothy Olyphant is alright but nearly due to some moments that kinda feel disconnected but Radha and the others do a good performance as their perspective roles. I would say its a rental because of the awkward moments in the acting and if you are like me and had watched tons of horror movies, it probably best if you don't watch it due to predicable cliches.

Bel... I mean Kristen Stewart plays Joan Jett, a homeless and poor girl who wants to play guitar to start a rock band but during the 1970s and the phenomena that only guys can be in a rock band - it's hard for Joan to even get a head start. On the other side, Cherie Currie played by Dakota Fanning is on the similar boat but after performing/lip-syncing on stage impersonating David Bowie, she got booed off stage and was called a freak.

One day, Kim Fowley played by Michael Shannon turned Joan's life and career upside down with the help of Cherie starting a concept of the all-girl metal band. As well as rebel, smoking weed and embracing the awkward things as she thinks as "cool" calling themselves "The Runaways", notorious for their hit-single, "I Love Rock N'Roll".

Coming from a unknown director, Floria - this is a surprising biopic which started the ideal of all-girl metal bands and the empty rebellion of impersonating male rockers. Furthermore, the real Joan Jett also co-wrote this movie and Stewart also met up with her so that she could perform a better role and it clearly shows in this film.

Through the year of blood sucking and brooding as well as handsome vampires, Kristen Stewart makes at least an effort in this movie unlike her bland and terrible performance in her film's career. Dakota Fanning which surprises me that she grow up much in between years of her childhood appearances on film just like the main cast of Twilight - like Stewart, she plays the rocker/rebellion and overdosed on things that are "cool" persona that plays well along with Stewart's performance.

Michael Shannon plays their psychotic record-producer, Kim Fowley is among the road with Stewart and Fanning, delivering a well-rounded performance. This is one movie/biopic that shows Stewart's true colours that she could actually act and not be what she is in Twilight.

Julia Roberts plays Laura who fakes her own death to escape her abusive husband, living under the radar (changing her name, moving into another place). But one day she notices a gardener/actor played by Kyle Secor who he often sees her looking at her and decided to flirt with her from carrying apples to her house to make an apple pie. This results to them having a date together but Laura isn't really committed to the whole date thing.

After much dating together, Laura's abusive husband played by Patrick Bergin comes over the radar again to track her wife back from interrogating other suspects who know of where Laura is.

Sleeping With The Enemy has its faults, the pacing of how the relationships between Laura and the gardener is a tad bit boring and drags of about too much. This also doesn't compensate the fact that Julia Roberts isn't much of a great actor in her early years and also looking like a hag in this movie. Kevin Secor as the actor/gardener is an annoying person that just wants under Laura's panties and the fact that when he speaks, it often falls short from bad acting.

From director Joseph Ruben who directed Money Train and The Good Son whose film history consists over dark and meddling themes, it makes perfect sense that this movie seems very dark... literary from how it shot, the long-ass pacing of Laura spying on the gardener to having a psychopathic husband trying to find his wife whatever means possible. I won't compliment Ronald Bass' screenplay as well, seeing how it was paced and how much filter that the movie takes of being mostly a romantic/thriller film. It's definitely a waste of time and having Julia Roberts just eye balling on things isn't much impressive either.

Superhero movies has its ups and downs, sometimes it feels pretentious and sometimes it ends up being a great movie. Movies like Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim has established that these types of movies are.. well kickass. This goes to show that Super is also another superhero-esque movie that is one part, action, drama and another part comedy.

Coming from a director who directed Slither, James Gunn created one of the best movies in my opinion of 2011; it plays one the fact that Dwight.. Rainn Wilson plays somewhat his character from the Office, Frank (a bit of a freak also gets a hot wife/girl like in the show), add maniac pixie girl, Ellen Page who works at a comic book store and spice things up with an avenge tale about a drug dealer, Jacques (played by Kevin Bacon) "kidnapping" Sarah (Liv Tyler) away from him and decides to make up a superhero for him as The Crimson Bolt.

But before that we get to see some "Slither" action of Frank waking up and having weird tentacles eject "super-powers" into him.. I guess and the fact that he almost watched Hentai tentacle-porn, probably referencing Gunn's previous movie. When heard that Frank is The Crimson Bolt, Libby, the Comic store clerk decided to "fight crime" with him, fighting off against "evil" from drug dealers, people cutting in line to child molesters and his real mission is to get back Sarah from the clutches of Jacques. Though unnecessary, this movie is pretty much Rated R due to Ellen Page swearing up a storm and being The Crimson Bolt's sidekick and it's also a dark comic-book movie having some of the most graphic scenes especially at the final confrontation against Jacques.

Remember Scott Pilgrim from last year directed by Edgar Wright? This is kind of like that having directors, James Gunn and Wright whose previous career isn't much about comic-book esque movies and decided to make a comic book movie that isn't pretentious and lame. And with a mix of Kick-Ass, of being a Super hero without special abilities unlike Scott Pilgrim. Plus the opening to Super was quite neat and artistic and having Nathan Filton as the "Avenger" was hilarious also. Furthermore, the visual style plays like a comic book like Scott Pilgrim and having Libby as a Maniac Pixie Girl is somewhat similar to Ramona albeit more crazy and annoying. And the fact that the whole film is very cheesy like a crappy comic book similar to Scott Pilgrim where it's equally a video game/comic book movie. Gunn is a genius trying to make something out of the ordinary.. like Slither.

Performances by Rainn Wilson as Frank/The Crimson Bolt plays somewhat his character from the Office, Liv Tyler as Sarah and Kevin Bacon as the drug lord, Jacques plays a good performance as their perspective parts albeit Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon manage to deliver a decent job as Bacon isn't that great in this movie as a drug lord. But the main star of the show is Ellen Page who plays a maniac and immature Libby who is crazy and pumped that she is fighting crime with The Crimson Bolt under the alias of Boltie. Her performance is remarkable from yelling off her lungs as psychotic as possible to having a day-dreaming orgy with Frank/The Crimson Bolt. Having said that Super is one of those movies that directors whose film history aren't similar can make a fantastic movie. Also the fact that it completely bombed at the box office due to it being underrated and perhaps limited to theaters, nationwide. Like Scott Pilgrim last year, this movie probably will be under the radar for all those other big huge releases like Source Code releasing the same day.

Tron Legacy 3D (2010)

Directed by Joseph Kosinski

Starring: Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde

Videogames based on movies tend to be a hit in the 80/90s with WarGamesCloak & Dagger and Nightmares - it's pretty much of a hit and miss with those movies that feature a fictitious game who the protagonist always plays at their local arcade or something between those lines. In 1982, Troncame out directed by Steven Lisberger who created a Tron universe filled with mind-blowing CG effects and visualized art assets alongside fictitious game that they play in this tron universe/internet, much of it comes from on the battle grid where USERS battle it out on digitized motocycles or an arena free or all where the USERs are equipped with TRON discs fight to the last man. Anyways the story is about Kevin Flynn works for ENCOM, a corporation who creates video games - Flynn created several video games but never get the credit for it. And so Alan, Flynn's friend created Tron and by doing so Flynn went into Tron, meeting the Master program and so on.

28 years right now, Tron Legacy alongside with Tron Evolution: the video game comes out without much of a disappointed as the original as Disney said. The original as unique with its art style, it could be was filled with bland and uninteresting moments in the film and less of a video game than walking from one place to another. Now Tron Evolution who is the 'prequel' to Tron Legacy tells Kevin Flynn's side in Tron where along Tron and Clu had built a civilization and ISOs in this world but Clu backstabbed Flynn and such.

Tron Legacy is about Sam Flynn since when he was seven, he never seen his father, Kevin since then as he runs away from home trying to find his father. 27 years later, he infiltrates ENCOM like his father, downloading much data and hacking the board meeting that Alan and Edward is presenting their new OS with his dog looping causing the OS to be online, for free. After being arrested and taken into custody, Sam returns back to his home where he meets Alan who told him one of great stunt he pulled and tells that he received a call from a pager that which is disconnected 20 years ago and from Flynn's arcade.
Sam in Flynn's arcade.
Sam in Flynn's arcade.

In Flynn's arcade, as he switches and opens the arcade, he finds a operational Tron arcade who he discovers that there's a secret passage behind the cabinet and into his father's secret office/workspace. In the workplace, he was suddenly beamed by a laser into Tron world.  He was then spotted by a recognizer who the MCR taken him for being a bad program and stripped by 4 female programs into Tron gear and a battle disc where he alongside with other programs fight to the death in the battle arena and when he is pitted against Tron, it notices that Sam isn't the same as the others and was taken to the overseer room where he meets his ''father'', Clu. He informs him that he isn't his real father and watches his memory from his ID on how and where he came through this universe and then was taken into another game, lightcycles where he is pitted against Clu in a 5 v 5 lightcycle battle in the grid. I presume that the other 4 in Sam's team are his replicas who are his teammates.

To cut this short, Qorra interrupts the game and rescues Sam with a four-wheel vehicle driving back to a hideout. In the hideout he finally meets his real father, Kevin who has been hiding out for years, protecting Qorra -the last ISO and his Tron disc who is the key that unlocks the portal to the real dimension which Clu is after. After much of a reunion and such, Sam is frustrated that his father isn't doing anything to stop Clu and Qorra helped him by sending him off to 'Zeus' who will helped him.

Sam Reignites with his father, Kevin Flynn.
Sam Reignites with his father, Kevin Flynn.
Driving his father's lightcycle, he goes into a bar where he meets Castor who he says, is ''Zeus'' and was immediately backstabbed and betrayed as Clu's men as Quorra and Kevin comes in to rescue Sam but in result of Quorra's arm being severed. Clu meets Castor in the bar who Castor discusses his plans of ruling the city and gives him the ''golden ticket'', Clu backstabs him and detonates the whole bar upon leaving. Having the ''golden ticket'', Clu organizes his entire army by the portal to stage a massive assault on Earth as Sam and revitalized Quorra stopped him.

Tron Legacy who alot of steps of making the visualized effects and CG as sharp as today's standards could be - making the world of Tron look dystopian as it may be. Ever since, such movies as Minority Report and Surrogates reflect on how the future may be, this movie just looks damn fine as the future. Anyways the parts where Sam is fighting in the arena and the battle grid where he and the other four look-alikes fight against Clu or when Kevin,Sam and Quora is reaching the portal, it looks spectacular and magnificent - fully looking how the original Tron was like, 28 years ago. However the CG regarding Clu, from the real world to Tron, looks fine until I figured out that it's CG and it's weird as ever. The 3D that comes along with it, disappointed others due to the lack of potential that it could be in all 3D of the Tron-digitized world. However there are spots that the 3D is
 Breaktaking Visual/CG effects
 Breaktaking Visual/CG effects
taken advantage of like when Castor snatches Kevin's disc from his back as the door closes - these moments had stunned me a little, it was unpredictable to me when it happened and how it happened I was looking not at the 3D effect.

Overall, Tron Legacy relates back to the first Tron in which that it displays, groundbreaking CG and art asserts that the original has, plus the fact that it similar to the storyline in cases of Sam hacking into ENCOM and teleporting into the universe that his father and Alan created but unlike the original, it's action-packed and immersive that of which sucks you into this universe. The soundtrack performed by Daft Punk fits well in this movie, creating a epic soundtrack that fits along the scenes of the janned-pack action scenes to the intense and eye-popping scenes near the end. The acting performances by Garrettt Hedlund ( Eragon) who plays Sam fits into a stereotypical, ''son never sees father until an older age'' style and Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner who replays their own roles from the original provides a solid performance. Olivia Wilde as hot and sexy as her hair cut and black make-up as she could be, plays Quora is decent but I could never let my eyes off of her pretty face. Michael Sheen however feels like his role from Twilight: New Moon as Aro and it could be either bad or good from a performance standpoint.

From a unknown director, Joseph Kosinski who only creates commercials for video games, this movie proves that he has potential to direct other movies, seeing that this is a successful or being the ''#1 Movie in America'' as advertised in commercials. Also in the movie, there is probably a cameo with Daft Punk as the DJs in Castor's bar.

Directed by John Woo

Starring: Nicholas Cage, Christian Slater

From Mission ImpossibleBroken Arrow to Face/offJohn Woo movies has been known for their splendid explosions and action. It’s what makes his movies so entertaining since his days of directing foreign films. But what’s left besides the glorifying action is the bad character development, overarching storyline and unnecessary dialogue – such cases as the Windtalker.

Nicholas Cage plays Sergeant Joe Enders - recently shell-shocked that left him out of comfort through past tragic events. Who after accounts of stupid dialogue with a nurse, Rita is thrush back into war with a objective – protecting two Navajo Marines, Yahtzee and Whitehorse who plays a essential role on radio in frequencies for support. Employed to the front-lines in the Pacific islands, both Enders and Yahtzee faces a dilemma with each other as it then is compensated with wide-panned action sequences fit for teenagers to watch because of the lack of gore.

While this premise is based on the events in World War II which uses this ‘’technology/code’’ to prevent the Japanese code breakers from eavesdropping, the real story was based on communication with this language across the channels of the radio but the only communication is between calling artillery/air support and was compensated with Enders’ bland life and dialogue that any war film could possibly be.

In addition, the action sequences where you see Enders and later Yahtzee in the front lines – acting like Rambo as a one man army and killing hordes of Japanese seems ridiculous and unrealistic even though it’s a John Woo movie. Besides the corny action sequences, the unnecessary dialogue with the marines, a musical duel with Whitehorse and Harrigan – the relationship with Enders and Yahtzee feels unlikable and cliche with the dilemmas that are short-played by bad character development, also the stereotypical marine that misplaces him as Jap and centers on that type of racial segregation and identity of the Navajo people.

All in all, Windtalkers is a dull and stupid movie that easily compensated with it’s highly, wide-panned actions sequences in the Pacific. Everything in this film is unlikable, to the characters, script, acting to the action sequences itself with Enders/Yahtzee overacting like Rambo and the Navajo misconceptions of racism to a ending that vaguely similar to Saving Private Ryan. John Woo movies may be entertaining but from foreign traditions, these types of directors seem to think less about the important parts.

Directed by Tyler Perry

The basis of making an only African-only films has its faults – the ideal that the film consists of 80% of black people acting like real black people is totally uncalled for – then again, the ‘’misrepresentation’’ of black people in films are regarded to be rather a exaggeration than thinking racist remarks. This was the case for Daddy’s Little Girl directed by Tyler Gerry who also directed; Why did I get Married? And Madea Goes to Jail.

The premise is a mixture of drama, revenge and romance – After Monty’s mother dies, his ‘’wife’’ Jennifer has a feud with him over whose ownership over the three kids; China, Lauryn and Sierra and takes this matter into court for ownership. The bad part is that Monty isn’t able to support a lawsuit over his ex-wife and was separated from his kids, getting a new job as a driver. Enter Julia played by Gabrielle Union who is the main romantic interest of Monty in this film – after having some conflict issues with him and a multitude of bad blind dates set up by her friends – she begins to love Monty and want to help with the lawsuit over ownership of the children. Now, I know it has been said that it’s taking a realistic step into real life but the romantic parts in the film seems too fake and also having the majority of this film, black people and making an attempt to say that ‘’white people are racist’’ and ‘’bitch bitch bitch’’ isn’t justifying anything towards the point of the film.

Anyways, the acting in this film is decent – sometimes the interaction between Monty and Julia seems too awkward and painful to watch – the other characters feels either too rush or too realistic in the sense of a fistful of attitude that usually are obnoxious. The main character, Monty is quite a likable guy, he doesn’t fall too much under the stereotypical black person and he isn’t obnoxious like the other characters in this film.

Having a black-only film is a totally ridiculous concept and Tyler Gerry citing that Hollywood is racist for not showing more black people in films is even more ridiculous. In the end of the day, it isn’ t about what race they are, it’s about their performance in those films and this film has decent acting. Hey, Martin Luther King said that ‘”Do not judge the colour of the skin but on their characteristic/personality’’, it’s a good quote that black people still avoid and misinterpreting for something else. This is personally a mediocre film and should be rented for your leisure.

Directed by: Adam McKay

Starring: Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly

I had seen many movies that are dumb, whether its the American Pie series, Dumb or DumberBill and Ted and Anchorman - not in the ''this movie sucks'' but its so dumb that its good. While they established some story behind their immature jokes of having sex or spurting genitalia vocabulary at each other, being actually productive and hilarious at the same time, there are movies that are seriously fucking aggravating that it isn't funny anymore... cough* The Hangover *cough..... This is the case of the Step Brothers, one of the most boring ass attempt of comedy and makes me rather watch The Hangover again than this pile of white doggie shit.

The premise is somewhat a good start for this potentially comedic movie, two middle-aged losers or man child (Brennan and Dale) are still living in their parents homes, as both of their parents (Nancy and Robert) are divorced. Their parents leave for work, only to see that they both get married and Brennan and Dale is forced to live with each other.

It's seriously a mouthful and retarded at the same time, the part when Robert is making a speech in a conference (ironic because he also does that in The Visitor) and out of the sudden, they have sex and get married after just because of saying "I want to put my head into your boobs". Just what the fuck is happening.

Anyways, when Brennan and Dale first met, they both hate each other - pulling pranks at each other and then having a huge fight due to Brennan rubbing his balls on Dale's drum set. Also destroying the house, the disgruntled father forced both of them to get a job and want them to move out of their life for a dream boat location at some island with his wife. Though the problem is that both of their ''sons'' doesn't want them to leave, having a pussyfit with them and sleepwalking at night - destroying more of the house. Furthermore, Brennan has a brother who he considers as a dickhead which constantly harasses him due to his inability to fight back - who is trying to sell his parents' home but both of them prevented him on selling the house.

The plot could be sum up in the few words but I want to make it clear that this film is clearly filled with the worst immature jokes since The Hangover, having said that a million times. It easily a portrayed of two idiots whose past is traumatic and the only friends they have is themselves and wants their parents to never leave them due to I presume, parents who didn't make their kids grow up to become a man and get a life or something. It's this kind of movie -- having their childish mentality and unable to fight back those who bullied you from the past and later on have the courage to fight back alongside with another person who had experienced the same.

The cast of characters portrayed by various actors/actresses are a mixed bag of shit that is. Will Ferrell as Brennan and John C. Reilly as Dale is working their own material, trying to have a sort of comedic relationship (not gay though), making the comedic moments more funnier. But seeing that the entirely of their jokes is a bunch of horse-shit, or that the director, Adam McKay is trying to make it unfunny - it doesn't seem like a coincidence that this movie sucks.  Mary Steenburger and Richard Jenkins as Brennan and Dale's parents are trying too hard on this film, especially Richard - scenes where he is trying to like and envies Brennan's brother due to being successful is out of his league in my opinion. His laugh and trying to swear is seriously fucked up in a wrong way, and the sex scene seems out of the portion, though in The Visitor, he flirts with a middle-eastern lady but at least that film has general quality into that character and NOT this! The supporting cast is the same as the others; lame, boring and totally retarded, I couldn't say anymore.

The whole movie is a piece of shit... The Hangover may be dumb but at least they redeemed it but going to Las Vag.... well at least they move from place to place rather than having see Reilly and Ferrell fucking face looking at the camera/at the ceiling when they are trying to sleep. I would say skip it though if you like the Hangover, or those Ashton Kuck(whatever his last name is) movies with Cameron Diaz or whatever - then rent it if you like that type of humour.

Toy Story 3 (2010) 3D

Directed by Lee Unkrich

Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, John Morris

Last year's Pixar animated Up, won a plethora of Academy awards and is considered to be one of my best movies of last decade. From the bitter sweet heartwarming moments, the adorable and charming characters and a moral lesson - to get rid of a burden that you've longed for since a kid, growing up. You cannot deny how charming and sweet, Pixar movies are - they always tend to have some sad moments but the good thing is that there's always something to cheer you up. Also, Pixar movies are always been recommended for everyone, whether child or adult.

 Breakthrough in Animation.
 Breakthrough in Animation.

Just fifteen years ago, when animation is just starting to appeal to western audience - one of the first animated movies by Pixar Animated Studios that impressed everyone with its gorgeous looking graphics from a 3D point of view is Toy Story. One of the breakthroughs of CG animation integrated into movies not only come with its attention to detail but its storyline about two bewildered toys, the Inner Galactic Buzz Lightyear and his Cowboy partner, Woody as both of them are trying to find their owner but stuck in a world that they never intended to be in. Though it doesn't age well towards now, but the adventures of Buzz and Woody is the most significant and exciting parts of that movie, After that comes Toy Story 2, the animation improved and features a new cast of characters from the old ones. This movie is considered one of the best (back then) in the series, with a strong narrative, lovable and charming cast of characters and a wild adventure.

Now in 2010, when 3D implementation into movies are going strong with mind-looking to not-so minding vision that utilizes a ''real-world'' of actually being there being advertised - it doesn't necessarily does that, its pretty much a eye-strain watching
3D glasses may caused eye-strain and dry eyes for me that is!
3D glasses may caused eye-strain and dry eyes for me that is!
movies that are tense and action pack with 3D glasses though there are exceptions of things flying into you that makes it cool.

Anyways, today or recently I went to the theatres to see Toy Story 3. Everyone seems to talk about this highly-anticipated animated movie and even though this movie came out on the 18th, my local movie theater was jam-packed with people - selling out tickets for Toy Story 3 though me and my friends had to wait a few minutes until we watched this movie under a different time slot, waiting in line to buy them. As we presented our slips and received our 3D glasses which looks like thick sun glasses, the room that they are showing this movie was already getting filled up and we were lucky to get the middle-row seats.

The 3D glasses at first are terrible and I have dry eyes which makes me tear up, distracting my ''3D'' experience due to the amount of trailers showed at the beginning; consisting mainly of animated movies from Pixar, one animated film with Brad Piit and Will Ferell and the other I don't really remember, oh... and some short cartoon called Night and Day. But besides the trailers, there are a few Toy Story 3 shorts that are brillantly well-done;  one of them is with Mr and Mrs Potato Head asking people to close their phones and shut their mouths and the other one is the avoid ''piracy'', as an toy-crafter designs Woody and says that Toy Story 3 will not look better than watching it in theaters... Kinda quirky and hilarious but that piracy one is something to considered on.

The movie then starts with the title card already and then shows Mr and Mrs Potato Head robbing a train in a western-theme style action movie as Woody comes saves the day and trolls, but they got away and Buzz saves the day as he lifts the train from falling and Woody as well. As WoodyBuzzand Jessie with his horse catches up with the two villains, the mechanical Hamm comes to destroy Woody and Buzz dropping red monkeys. Then it transitions to Andy's childhood through some kind of montage, as he is
growing up. This part of the movie may be one of the remarkable moments for me; what's remarkable is that Andy is already 17, becoming more mature as the age difference may be an allusion that the last Toy Story was eleven years ago, impacting on the inner child of Andy, becoming more responsible as a teenager who is going to college at the age of 17.

The toys are pretty much disappointed that Andy isn't playing with them anyone, as Andy's mother wants him and his little sister to donate toys to the Sunnyside, a local daycare but he refuses to let his childhood memory go as he decides to put all his toys with the exception of Woody into the attic to protect them. But as he later became distracted with helping his sister, his mother picks up the garbage bag fulled of his toys and onto the curb from an oncoming garbage truck is coming. Woody tries to save them as they all decided to go to Sunnyside where they could be played with kids due to the fact that their owner doesn't want to play with them anymore and thinks that they're garbage.

When they arrived to the daycare, Buzz, Jessie, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Rex and Hamm the Piggy Bank, Slinky Dog, and the Aliens are greeted by Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear named Lutso who is the leader of the daycare and smells like strawberry. He introduces his new guests to the other outcast toys that are donated to the daycare and says that there will an infinite amount of fun to be played at. Then Lutso offers them a room where the kids could play with them all day but Woody arrives to warn them
about returning home as they refused to leave. As they soon figured out that Lutso trapped them for the younger kids to go haywire on them; painting all over them to mostly completely destroying them - they realized that Woody warned them and regret the decision to leave the Daycare.

At night, they decided to leave the daycare - as Buzz tries to find a exit, he was later ambushed by the tyrannical baby and realized that Lutso intended for them to live in this so-called penitentiary, first brainwashing him, changing the play button to the demo button where Buzz thinks that he is a inner-galactic superhero again thinking that his friends are his enemies as they are locked up into containment cells and the slur of prison-movies' references escapades. Woody as he escaped the daycare was spotted by a cute little girl named Bonnie who brought him back to her house to play cafe with Mr. Pricklepants, Trixie, Dolly, Chuckles who was once Lutso's friend and Peas-in a pod and also Neighbourhood Totoro which never speaks. Miss Opportunity.

Besides that, Woody now must save his friends from the Cute Thing that became Evil Bear in the daycare also known as the penitentiary where no toys ever leaves...

There's no words to say how incredible this movie is, its just awesome to see the cast of characters from the second one with the exception of Slinky Dog's actor (may he R.I.P) though Blake Clark manages to fit into that role. The main characters, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen still got that nostalgia from the first two Toy Story movies, they still sound the same and manages to entertain everybody as well as the rest of the cast of characters. Joan CusackWallace ShawnJohn RatzenbergerEstelle
Harris and Don Pickles and Jodi BensonBlake Clark and of course Any reprises their perspective roles and does an outstanding performance. Estelle Harris and Don Pickles are pretty much what I remember the two Toy Story besides Hanks and Allen, I couldn't forget the outtakes of Mr and Mrs Potato Head in Toy Story 2, George's mother always seem to amaze me with her voice. Besides that the new characters in the daycare and Bonnie's playhouse is also terrific, Michael Keaton as Ken is one of the funny and ironic moments when he met with Barrie, he just could pull off how Ken sounds like. The others, like Lotso the hugging bear played by Ned Beatty as a villain is quite lovable even though he's evil and he wants everyone to stay in the daycare and the performances by Whoppi Goldberg as the octopus and the others which I can't remember are alright in their roles.

Anyways to wrap this up, Toy Story 3 is a compelling, remarkable and good-looking animated Pixar movie in this year though the 3D didn't have its role in this movie, the movie just sucks you in - forgetting that its in 3D and still looks very pretty and gorgeous. The moral lesson in this movie comes to the main character as he is growing older and doesn't have time to play with his toys anymore but having his inner child still inside. It's what the lesson is, regardless of how old you are being tired of playing toys that you have kept for through the generation, you still have your inner childhood and like what Up's life lesson, to get rid of a childhood burden just as how Andy leaves all his toy including Woody to Bonnie, as the child of him becomes responsible. The story does so to contribute that with the sweetness that Pixar movies had to offer mixed in with comedy that everyone can enjoy. This is considered to be, I'm calling it, one of the best movies of this year besides the upcoming Expendables and Inception.

The King's Speech (2010)

Directed by Tom Hooper

Starring: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce and Helena Bonham Carter

Words I cannot describe how marvelous and remarkable, this movie is - seeing that this movie is my favourite and number 1 movie of the previous year. I'm quite astonished that The King's Speech has left me speechless throughout the whole movie, enjoying and embracing, the influential parts with His Majesty, Prince Albert and his hired speech therapist, Lionel Logue practicing and improving on his speech impediment. This kind of feeling is relate-able to 2006's Academy Award Movie, The Queen, not only being a bio-documentary and historical figures of our society but how "refined" it is without the bias.

Director Tom Hooper whose name is quite unknown, directed this movie with such finesse -- not making this "influential" movie that doesn't derive from other movies being "too sentimental" or exaggerates between the lines of a underdog tale or overuse of a sweeping score.. No Hooper crafts together, a movie that puts a realistic view towards a "influential and powerful" film that which nothing of the previous year could top it.

The King's Speech stars, Colin Firth as Prince Albert, The Duke of York's ascension to the throne, his reluctance of ascension, the perilous journey regarding his speech impediment and the means to solve it. This movie doesn't comprise of another bland
biography about royalty and a heir to the throne; it diverts the attention of Albert not being invested as a prince but as a man. This credit goes off to Hooper and his screenwriter who woefully indulged the audience with the troubles of Prince Albert being not only a heir to King George but the responsibility taken upon himself.

Through the course of the movie, starting with the awkward opening -- it clearly shows the general feeling of a nervous stammer, of the audience reaction, and public embarrassment - these are quite relatable in our daily lives (ex. making a speech, presentation, etc). Hooper clearly wanted to craft something that relates to real-life standards of stammering through the course of the movie, making the great lengths to the main character's intolerance and patience of stammer and the means of improving throughout the movie.

Being that of it is, Elizabeth ( Helena Bonham Carter) hires a unconventional speech therapist, Lionel Logue ( Geoffrey Rush) to tutor, Prince Albert, everyday through the years before his ascension to the throne. The mentor-ship of Lionel Logue is the hallmark of this film, it deliberately makes the movie, the influential one. In the sessions with Logue and Albert or Bertie, we could see the frustration and self-confidence issues coming out of Albert and Logue utilizing his experience to conquer his fear of his responsibilities and speech impediment. Also having a R rating attached to it, and having to see Bertie's burst of constant profanity with a touch of humour makes this movie not overly being constantly dramatic.

As the prince, he also faces the dilemmas after his father, King George's death and the responsibilities of his ascension with his older brother, Edward ( Guy Pearce) who decides to abdicates his rule rather than denouncing his twice-divorced American wife, Wallis Simpson. Being unable to be equipped rule as well as being cruel and vile to his younger brother, Albert and others.

The performances by Colin Firth as George "Bertie" VI (Albert) comes off as a intelligent, stunning and heartfelt performance - such amnesty are provided in the speech therapy session and how Colin utilizes a Prince's frustration, anger and impatience due to his nervous stammer and also his responsibly and tensions of the royal family. Also when Lionel Logue uses the techinque of "clearing his mind" by using some sort of type recorder while being distracted by "Marriage of Figero" and reciting Shakespeare's Hamlet's famous lines - after his reluctance of listening it, two years later, it shows Lionel's techniques truly works and comes off as a foreshadowing of things to come.

Geoffrey Rush who plays Barbossa in The Pirates of the Caribbean series, performance is excellent being a speech therapist that didn't get his career off a diploma/degree but through experience during the aftermath of the first World War, coping them through traumatic experience. This goes
to show that experience is much better than a sleazy degree from a snobby graduate, and Rush's character comes to life as a therapist to Bertie and connection between them as developing friends as well as mentor. Helena Bonham Carter is also great in this movie, providing a strong support to Albert in his time of grievance as well as Guy Pearce being a older and mean brother to Albert. Other roles of past historic figures like Winston Churchill, Chamberlain, King George, his wife, Archbishop Lang and so on fits perfectly through the crisis before the impending second World War and the days of the elected George VI's wartime speech.

Overall, The King's Speech is not only a influential masterpiece and my number 1, movie of the previous year but has really left me, speechless through the course of the movie. This is how powerful this movie truly is without being overly-sentimental with a moving soundtrack and tired use of thoughtless ''inspiration''. Hooper and his screenwriter has proved that even unknown, filmmakers could craft such an astonishing, intriguing and thoughtful drama that takes a rare turn of balancing out the political and the personal life with equality.

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

Directed by Craig Gillespie

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider

I always tend to sympathize with movies under the concept of the mentally-ill, yes I know these movies can be a drag sometimes with it's emotional part trying to exaggerate something it's not. With romantic drama with the mentally-ill, it's the same case; film such as Mozart and the Whale.

Lars and the Real Girl on the other hand is a special one and a great concept of a mentally-challenged/fragile man, Lars suffering from social awkwardness who one day decides to order a sex doll online so that he could finally reach out to the community as well as speaking to her alone who's forced to "play along" to it/she being his girlfriend, a foreign girl, Beyonca. It's quite a riveting story actually, a person who's has been quite disconnected with his brother, Gus and sister-in law as well as a small community and another mentally-challenged girl who likes him, starts to make a connection with everyone.

Aside from that, this is rather like "don't judge a book by it's cover" movie, from a first perspective, one may think it's rated R, a idea of a young man buying a "sex doll" online... it could possibly be something funny but when I watched the whole movie, it's a neat idea for someone who's life is out of contact with others. Anyways Ryan Gosling (All the Good Things) as Lars, plays the mentally-ill character pretty well, pertaining to be painfully shy and trying to get his words out by having a sex doll with him.

Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation) as Gus plays a troubled brother who regrets the day he allowed his younger brother, Lars to live in the garage rather in his house and at first contact with the sex doll wanted Lars to go to a mental institution - his performance is also great and hilarious as well as Emily Mortimer (Pink Panther Remake) who plays Gus' sister-in law which is weird because Gus sleeps with her, making it more like incest to me. Patricia Clarkson as Doctor Dagmar also plays a terrific performance as a doctor who's first plays along with Lars and Beyonca but is really helping his condition. Other notable cast; R.D Reid as Reverend Bock and Boyd Banks as Russell (Dawn of the Dead 2004).

Overall, I think it's a cute and riveting movie that is different from other movies like this one, it doesn't really feel cliche and one of those movies that you should watch in its' entirely rather than critiquing from a poster standpoint.

Yes Man (2008)

Directed by Peyton Reed

Starring: Jim Carey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper and Danny Masterson

Jim Carey plays a pessimistic and nonverbal bank employee, Carl who after the painful breakup with his wife, Stephanie as well as avoiding his two friends, Rooney and Peter lives a "NO" life, making excuses to everything. But one day, Nick had invited Carl to a "YES" seminar which turned Carl to say "YES" to everything becoming more optimistic in life. But turning into a "YES MAN", has him being taken advantage by everyone including his two friends, a homeless man and a elderly disgusting woman next door that owed him "a favour"... gross.

Performance wise, Jim Carrey builds a solid character to Carl though we seen his similar performances in other movies, speaking of similar performances, Zooey Deschanel plays her "Pixie Dream Girl" cliche and remind us that everytime, if Zooey is on screen you don't really care if she is playing the same role, just the fact that she's adorable. Bradley Cooper and That 70's Show, Danny Masterson plays Carl's friend, Peter and Rooney and does a solid performances as well.

The movie overall does sent a message like any movies that has a moral to it, I did not much care for it, it felt too pretentious and sends out a wrong message within a good one to be overshadowed with being taken advantage of. Nevertheless it's decent movie based on the comedic memoir by Danny Wallace and directed by Peyton Reed who did the horrid The Break-UP.

Source Code (2011)

Directed by: Duncan Jones

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Jeffrey Wright and Vera Farmiga

Source Code is in fact The Inception of 2011 - it mixes a simple yet complex story and combines it with a unique and compelling concept of which is exactly the sum of it's parts. From what critics and fans raved, Source Code marks an exemplary for a Hollywood thriller that hit in April Fool's day in no less, which doesn't mix together due to the fact that it isn't a practical joke rather than a thrilling and outstanding movie that came out in the first quarter of 2011.

Director Duncan Jones who previously directed another fantastic film, Moon - a mixture of Philip K Dick and with a touch of Stanley Kubrick into one film decided to make Deja Vu and Speed into one complete package called Source Code. Like with The King's Speech, we see another new writer,Ben Ripley who makes a excellent and well-crafted script that derives from other movies and adds a unique concept into it.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars portrays two roles; Sgt. Colter Stevens, a helicopter pilot from Kandahar and Shawn, a history teacher who wakes up as the teacher on board a Chicago-bound train, not knowing where he is and why is he not in Kandahar in a firing mission. The mentally and physically of both Shawn and Stevens plays such in movies like Down to Earth and Groundhog Day where the character doesn't realize that he's in another person or he doesn't accepts that he's in a time paradox until he accepts it through a trial of endangering himself and others. At first he tries to find himself but eight minutes after, the Chicago-train explosives and he finds himself as Stevens in a capsule, under a secret military program codenamed Source Code as Lt. Carol Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) tries to convince him that the incident on the train was really a simulation and everyone on the train is actually dead.

Stevens/Shawn and Christina before the train blows up.
Stevens/Shawn and Christina before the train blows up.

Carol wants Stevens to relive the eight minutes of Shawn's life in order to find the terrorist/bomber who detonated the train so that he could prevent the next attack which will target the city of Chicago and Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright), overseeing this "simulation" and finds that this simulation project, Source Code will be a huge success for the military. In the eight minutes of Shawn's life, he first meets with a mid-twenties girl, Christina (Michelle Monaghan) who accomplices him as well as a student and finds Shawn, troubling as he endears a massive time-paradox or Groundhog's Day of first endearing conflicts with the passengers on board, knowing everything that will happen and ways to find the terrorist.

The Capsule is getting wider... "That&squot;s what she said"
The Capsule is getting wider... "That's what she said"

At first with trying to track the terrorist who planted the bomb, it felt short and to me - I thought it would be like Speed (substituting the bus for a train) and the whole time, the train will be monitored by the terrorist to ensure that the bomb will detonate and no one will be able to disarmed until Keanu Reeves tricks Dennis Hopper. But what we actually got is a terrorist/nut-job, Derek who tries to "send a message" by killing thousands to millions of innocent civilians and cleverly dropping his identification so that he is presumed dead on board the train so that he could blow up Chicago. It felt rushed to me at that point but having Stevens reliving the 8 minutes as Shawn coming into conflict with the passengers; from beating up a motion-sickness Middle-Eastern businessmen and ending up being run over by a train, getting arrested onboard for stealing a gun to finding the bomber and getting him and Christina shot adds some drama and comical touch to it.

Carol and Dr. Rutledge receiving Stevens' transmission of identifying who's the terrorist.
Carol and Dr. Rutledge receiving Stevens' transmission of identifying who's the terrorist.

Oh, we also have Jeffrey Wright trying his best to chew his lines like in any other movies he's in as the commander discussing the secret program, Source Code of which is a "time adjustment/paradox" and reveals to Stevens that he actually died in Kandahar, while engaging on a firing mission and he is actually now Shawn. It plays the Down to Earth formula with a touch of Inception in the end of having a "time-paradox" of Stevens trying to save the whole train from detonating and revealing that this program does work in that instance. Or that he is still living in that part of time having described by Wright - "being in another dimension."

Stevens inside the Source Code capsule.
Stevens inside the Source Code capsule.

The story overall felt like an episode from an action-packed sci-fi thriller to me, running around 93 minutes, the sets is only focused upon the train and finding the terrorist who planted the bomb, the military compound where Carol and the commander is tracking the terrorist, the capsule that Stevens in and some parts of Chicago. These locations felt un-Hollywood standards to the executives due to a shortage of locations and only basing the movie around the train. This does hinder the movie of lacking a loop of Gyllehaal eye-balling everything and punching the douche bag to Russell Petersmaking everyone laugh over a bet of 125 dollars. And of course falling in love with Christina and saving her and the passengers from the threat of the bomb exploding.

Before it starts being Inception-like with "the freeze-frame", Stevens kisses Christina
Before it starts being Inception-like with "the freeze-frame", Stevens kisses Christina

It is sure compelling but some parts like character doesn't go much into detail along with the characters; we don't much know of Carol who orders Stevens to find who's the terrorist and Derek who is the terrorist isn't much of an attention-grabber, making a stereotypical nut-job albeit clever who tries to "send a message" by killing civilians and disappointedly not a terrorist who demands ransom. It's main focus is centering the bomb and Stevens like Phil Connors from Groundhog Day being an anti-hero enduring the trials of the same event, over and over until he finally achieves a trial that is less of himself and takes the girl as well as save millions of people.

The main problems that I have with the film doesn't neglect the fact that I enjoyed it - having a unique concept mixed with a contrived action-packed thriller of terrorist trying to bomb something fully works well in this movie and having Stevens reliving someone else's life preventing a terrorist from bombing a train with dilemmas is compelling and goes on to the limits of being a conventional thriller. Gyllenhaal who I rarely see on theaters since Brokeback Mountain, does a terrific performance along with Farmiga and Monaghan albeit Wright on the other hand plays the same role as being a doctor. The ending plays a touch of Inception, leaving out the mysteries of him being in another person's body and having the time-paradox going back again as well as Down to Earth if Chris Rock had still been inside the wealthy fat millionaire and not been assassinated.

Finding Forrester (2000)

Directed by Gus Van Sant

Starring: Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham, Ann Paquin

We see many films that provide us with a quality of education. Finding Forrester is no exception. There are a number of films that I have recently watched that show the quality of what this film displays. Some examples are: 12 Angry Men and The Great Debaters which have similarities and differences from this movie and all have a similar theme.

The major similarity in 12 Angry Men and The Great Debaters is the depiction of discrimination, prejudice and racism. The topics which are touched upon in these movies are ones which were of great relevance in the 1950s. In 12 Angry Men, we see that there is certain amount of prejudice and discrimination against a youth who was convicted of murder. Through the course of the film, we see the insanity of racism; how people can make assumptions based on stereotypes of an ethnic minority. Both films provide examples of more positive views of ethnic people.

Finding Forrester and The Great Debaters are even more similar. The Great Debaters provides a powerful message of perseverance: to fight for what you believe in despite any major set-back. Melvin Tolson fights for his beliefs despite the racism of his society. This movie provides a glimpse into the racist attitudes that ethnic people were faced with during this period. Ethnic minorities faced struggled against the KKK and white majority for justice and anti-discrimination. The amount of emotion displayed in the film is awe-inspiring. Both films deal with racism, perseverance, education, discrimination and most of all, freedom.

The film Finding Forrester is directed by Gus Van Sant who did a remarkable work on this film. This film shows that one does not need to “sell out” in order to create a “great film.” Reading the novel first provided a greater understanding of the theme of the movie.

Let us begin with the title of this work - Finding Forrester; not only does it give clue to what the work is about, but it also reveals a major character: Forrester. The name for this novel/film provides us with the dilemma the characters are faced with without even watching or reading it. It seems like it isn't finding this character but finding his inner persona. This title clearly suggests the purpose of the story but not the racism within the film.

The film starts off in the South Bronx where the main protagonist resides in. This film portrays the South Bronx better than the novel; it is more realistic and livelier. The poverty is much better depicted in the film than it is in the novel. Enter Jamal Wallace, a gifted and talented basketball player who goes to Franklin High. One day, Wallace notices he is being watched by a mysterious person while he is playing basketball with his friends. His path crosses with this mystery man who is revealed to be the author of Avalon Landing: William Forrester. Jamal learns that Forrester has been in recluse because of a secret which he is ashamed to reveal. With the guidance of Forrester, Jamal’s gift in writing flourishes and he is accepted into the prestigious school Mailor-Callow. Jamal is brought into a different environment, one which only the privileged can experience. He becomes involved with Claire whose father, Dr. Spence, is the dean of Mailor-Callow. Jamal also faces a rival on the basketball court, Hartwell who just wants to be the only black person in the basketball court.

Crawford, Jamal’s English teacher, is suspicious of Jamal’s ability to write and believes that he is plagiarizing due to Crawford’s bigoted opinions on race. To prove that he is intelligent, Jamal breaks his promise with Forrester by submitting work which was written inside Forrester’s apartment, causing a rift in their relationship; as well, by submitting this work, Jamal reinforces Crawford’s assumption because it is discovered that Forrester had published the work years ago, so Jamal is disqualified from the writing competition. Terrell delivers Jamal’s letter to Forrester, in hopes of repairing their friendship. Forrester is touched by this letter and goes to Mailor-Callow to rectify Jamal’s reputation. Once Jamal’s name is cleared, he is entered into the competition again. Forrester passes away a year later, leaving all his belongings to Jamal, a sign that Forrester considered Jamal like a son.

This film is quite an inspiring and emotional one. Everything from the cinematography to the screenplay has proven that this film has well deserved merit. The movie is realistic with no added special effects or melodramatic music. Much of Forrester's life has been in deep reclusion but Jamal’s presence proves to be positive. Their friendship is reciprocal as both of them learn a lot from each other; Forrester's secret past to Jamal being taught by Forrester on how to properly write. It was emotional when Jamal was accepted to Mailor-Callow, as he isn't able to see his friends and enters into a different world where he has to struggle against racism and prejudice.

The technical aspects for this film are decent but not great. For a film that provides a great storyline and characters, some of the other aspects lack quality. The main flaw of this is the set, as this created some repetition in the environment. For example, the set for Mr. Crawford’s class was used for the writing contest and auditorium. Other aspects such as lighting and costumes were well done in the movie. The lighting through the set of Forrester’s apartment provides an excellent depiction of what a recluse’s home might look like. The costumes provide excellent diversity between characters portrayed in the film, as well the costumes suit the environments.

The scene where Forrester leaves his apartment for the first time in years is sad. Jamal brings Forrester to the Yankee Stadium and as they are going there, you can see the panic in Forrester’s face since he has not been outside for so long. It is truly a depressing scene to see Forrester suffering because of entering the outside; it feels like Forrester was Jamal's son, trying to find him as opposed to when they are in the apartment. The heart-breaking moment is when Forrester and Jamal are at the base of the Yankee Stadium because you can feel the intensity of Forrester's sorrow and grief, over his brother and the reason why he doesn't like any acknowledgement from people. This event strengthens their relationship; Jamal views Forrester as a father figure and Forrester views Jamal as a son. The title Finding Forrester is very fitting because both Jamal and Forrester had been missing someone from their lives.

Another emotional scene is when Forrester ventures out of his apartment of his own will because it shows Forrester breaking free from his reclusion. This scene is depicted through his bird sight-seeing and how he wanted to be free like the birds; it’s remarkable to see him on the bike as if he were flying like a bird. The last scene is emotional and inspiring, as Forrester goes to Jamal's school and reads Jamal's letter in front of the judges of the writing competition who allow the Jamal to re-enter. It was inspirational to see him speaking in front of the crowd and had been lifted of his burden.

After the success of the film, a novel was produced and is quite different from the original screenplay. While the film gives you the true feeling and atmosphere of the story, the novel gives you more development on characters and more emphasis on the story. The character development in the novel is intriguing; there are more relationships, different scenes that don’t appear in the film and new dialogue. One example is when Jamal was forced into playing in the basketball competition; in the novel Jamal refused to play due to his migraine but in the film, he didn't play well and his team lost the game. In the novel we see that Jamal had received a migraine for his consequences and left the competition but in the film he stayed in the competition while receiving a terrible migraine. It was interpreted well in the novel because of Jamal feeling the sense of remorse and grief; you could feel his sorrow in breaking Forrester's promise and it is more heart-breaking than the film.

There is also a scene where Jamal has a date with Claire and he gives her a signed copy of Avalon Landing. Jamal brings Claire a local restaurant which provides a great romantic scene between the two. In the film, we get to see Claire receiving a gift from Jamal but it didn't interpret a romantic scene with him. Besides that we get to see more dialogue with other characters that Jamal hadn't talk to, like Coach Garrick. In the novel, Garrick admires Jamal’s talent in basketball, but is disappointed when Jamal in unable to play due to a migraine. The novel emphasizes every character in the film, creating a depth which cannot be actualized in film. In the novel, Jamal's relationship between Terrell and his mother is more detailed, which cannot be said of the movie.

There was one scene in the film that was played differently than the novel, when Jamal returned home and slept. In the film Jamal was asleep when Terrell and his mother saw his letter to Forrester which Terrell then delivers, but in the novel, Jamal wakes up to find what Terrell has done and becomes upset. There is an important scene that isn't in the novel: when Forrester finally goes outside and rides his bike. This scene exemplifies the freedom that Forrester had wished before in his reclusion. This was after he had read Jamal's piece about companionship, and it was quite impressive to see Forrester relieved of his secret burden by enjoying life outside rather than inside. Both of these renditions of Finding Forrester are outstanding; I am impressed by Gus Van Sant’s masterpiece and with James W. Ellison’s interpretation.

Overall, Finding Forrester is one of the best films/novels that truly relates and inspires me; from the chemistry between Forrester and Jamal, to the growth that both of them receive through the course of the film. It shows that they are truly father and son, with a bond that cannot be broken. It is also remarkable how they interpret the themes into the film/movie; you could understand the concepts which are portrayed in Finding Forrester and how well it was presented. The interpretation of racism is well played when Jamal enters Mailor-Callow and how harsh Mr. Crawford treats Jamal as a stereotype. The emotional scenes with Forrester leaving his apartment to Jamal breaking Forrester's promise on not bringing anything outside of his apartment are depressing moments. Also, the rivalry of Hartwell who wants to have the reputation as the only black person on the court, to the romantic relationship between Claire and Jamal are emotional. It is astounding how the director, Gus Van Sant created this masterpiece and the interpretation to creating a novel by James W. Ellison; they both presented the storyline with outstanding merit. I find it interesting that Rob Brown who plays Jamal, relates to his fictional character, as they are both sixteen and talented in basketball. Also, Sean Connery who plays William Forrester relates to his fictional character as he is Scottish, and Fly (Jamal's friend) was named after the actor: Fly Williams III. I really enjoyed this film and novel despite the contrast in scenes and in-depth character progression; they both amaze me for their creativity and storytelling.

I recommend this film and novel to everyone. This movie is truly inspirational and doesn't have melodramatic scenes like many Hollywood movies do today. It possesses the integrity in my opinion, much like independent films, which have a different concept than other films created today. This movie is an example of how movies can truly be, how every single detail in this movie feels like you are truly there with Jamal or Forrester and having an adventure with them as you encounter the trials and tribulations that they are faced with. As I stated before with The Great Debaters being compared to this film, it is comparable because of the perseverance the characters must fight against: racism and false accusations; a false accusation assumed by majorities that minorities cannot be intelligent like them and these films prove to be that.

Broken Arrow (1996)

Directed by John Woo

Starring: John Travolta and Christian Slater

John Woo films are known for its explosions and insane choreography, its what drives us to watch it again and again. The acting, character development and dialogue however may be corny at its own right. All of these things appeared in Broken Arrow, an action-packed yet non-easily taken blockbuster.

Major Vic Deakins ( John Travolta) and Commander Riley Hale ( Christian Slater) are two Air Force pilots who loves to bet on each other on boxing - Vic is on the winning streak against Riley who someday will beat him. One day, they are tasked to perform a training exercise on a B-3 bomber which are carrying two extremely dangerous nuclear warheads over the deserts of Utah. But the mission goes haywire when Vic Deakins decided to turn on Riley, attempting to kill him then intentionally crashing the B-3 bomber looking like it's an accident. The reality is that Vic had sold out and had dropped the two nuclear warheads in the desert where his accomplices decided to target Salt Lake City unless the government pays them 250 Million dollars. After a parachute landing, Riley encounters a park ranger, Terry Carmichael ( Samantha Mathis) who helps him to stop Vic from a terrorist act over Salt Lake City. Or if he decided to change his course to the east?

The storyline pretty much cliche at this point - there is usually an antagonist who wants ransom for an amount of money or else they blow up something or they kill the hostages one by one. It's really cliche yet the beginning where Vic betrays Riley is something to be confused upon. I seriously cannot comprehend how quick that betrayal is and thought it would be the terrorists who will hijacked the bomber or so. But anyways pretty much the rest of the film has John Woo trademark with the exception of unlimited ammo. The romantic interest with Riley and Terry goes nowhere until the end of the film, which is a good thing because most romantic interests in films are the one who makes the film suck more.

The acting is below stupid especially when it comes out of John Travolta's mouth - seriously sometimes I think he's on drugs or trying to be Dennis Hopper or trying to act like some bad guy who had become a terrorist. It's not only Travolta part but the rest of the cast - delivering corny dialogue and lame-ass liners. Slater and Mathis is not only corny but painfully boring as they try to deliver some serious lines. Seeing Kurtwood Smith as the Secretary and Daniel von Bargen together in a room together makes me laugh of how bad they deliver those lines - its maybe the corny dialogue but the tone which has been delivered is abysmal.

The action and explosives are awesome - true that most of the gun shots, screams and other sound effects sounded like they had downloaded from websites. The explosions of helicopters and that fucking nuclear warhead being detonated underground is a pretty sight to see. It's what makes John Woo movies great, having cool explosions and gunfights. The fighting choreography is also good, the confrontation between Vic and Riley near the ending is intense - though everyone would know who wins - its a part where the film shines.

Broken Arrow delivers some of the most action-packed films that isn't considered to be the best but its up there. With a great fighting choreography of Travolta and Vic to explosions, gunfights to explosions. The ending may be considered more goofy and stupid but the bad guy is dead and they should go make out like other films do. The acting, storyline and such is why the film is almost mediocre - its the main flaws of John Woo films but its not to the point of that piece of shit Roland Emmerich who directed those shitass movies. This should be a rental for a Friday night if you liked these kind of stuff.

Frost/Nixon (2008)

Directed by Ron Howard

Starring: Michael Sheen, Frank Langella, Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt

Movies based on a true story, especially in the case of political terms sounds pretty reluctant due to it's historical accuracies which the directors trying to convey. There's always been some controversies surrounding these types of events and what the director is trying to say in the movie tend to either confuse the audience or unwilling to clarify their interpretation of being historically accurate in a political movie. The faults are mainly directed to Oliver Stone, his films generally produced by his interpretations or the facts given to him about such political like; the presidency of George W. Bush andNixon. Though the presentation of how Oliver Stone tries to convey it does show some kind of merit through U.S president's life in office and the hardships that they face, whether the media or getting elected.

Ron Howard, director of such films of The Da Vinci Code and A Beautiful Mind which won a Oscar, directs one of the most crafted yet good political film based on the infamous interview by David Frost and Richard Nixon. It's indeed a controversial one, having over four million people watching this broadcast, wanting to hear the truth behind the Watergate fiasco that caused Nixon to resign his presidency.

Howard tries to convey before and after of this controversial interview in proportions - it doesn't feel too quick like W. did, it starts off with David Frost's life as a host of a talk show then the following before the interview, the other proportion shows talking heads of actor/resses presenting themselves as the characters in this film, trying to make it authentic as possible. The other half of this film seems quite absurd and brilliant at the same time because of actor and actresses playing their roles in the film and making it seemed like rendered archive footage of the explanations of David Frost and Nixon during the interview. It's quite detailed actually to perform that sort of thing and it does truly have some merit.

The performance between the actor and actresses are the main star of the film - Michael Sheen's performance as David Frost is quite astounding, ever since he played Tony Blair in the Academy-Award Winning film, The Queen, I never though he could pull it off, pretending to be Frost but coming out like Blair. Frank Langella excels as Richard Nixon, albeit better than Anthony Hopkins due to his voice and how he performed during the interview. The other cast also provides a good performance, Kevin Bacon as Jack Brennan proves to be a strong performance as well as Rebecca Hall as Frost's girlfriend, Caroline Cushing.

Frost/Nixon proves a valiant effort by Ron Howard - it surprises me that this film wasn't a disappointment due to Howard's history of directing Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. The performance to the presentation of an indepth look of Frost and Nixon's life before and after the interview presents itself pretty well. It is no surprise that Peter Morgan wrote this screenplay, since the Queen, he did a brilliant job retelling the events of our history's important figures and this truly shows some merit. The flaw besides the talking heads is the historical inaccuracies during this interview, the material provided in this film is somewhat fictional, however the other half is somewhat realistic.

Clannad Movie (2007)

Published by: Key

Games that are based on anime are quite popular in the East, specifically Visual Novels. Visual Novels are games that focuses on more of the story and provides dialogue options similar to a RPG. Whether its a Galge or just age appropriated Novel, it compels the player to make decisive decisions that will affect the storyline. Through a cast of interactive characters, rely too much on text and dialogue options, this might be the reason why the western market isn't intriuged by this type of game.

One of the known Visual Novel is Clannad, created KEY. Whom created such hits like Air and Kanon. Key is known for making depressed storyline and emotions, its what derives from Clannad that makes it emotional. From character mortal's dilemmas to depressing music, its a emotional experience that have great merit. After creating a Visual Novel, KEY produced the anime for it. The elements on which made the Visual Novel, emotional still remain in this anime but it also picks you up and make you feel better.

Dezaki Osamu, a director who directed such nostalgic hits as Astro Boy and some of the Lupin III movies. Directs Clannad: The Motion Picture, based on the game which I still question. From what I have seen, its surprising that Ishihara Tatsuya isn't directing this movie. Yet this movie was before the release of the anime series, a year ago when it was released. While I can compare, comparisons between the anime series, its incorrect to say to compare this movie since it came before the anime series.

This movie is somewhat based upon: gaps of the first Clannad and After Story. Most of the key plot developments of After Story is in this movie. While this is all based on the game, in which has multiple endings and different branches upon the story, its still yet awkward and confusing to understand the difference between the anime series and the movie. The movie sets up in a different scenario, many characters that was introduced in the anime series aren't there as it mainly focuses on the main characters: Okazaki Tomoya, Sunohara Youhei and Furakawa Nagisa.

The story starts out like Clannad but a depiction of Tomoya's depiction. Questioning his existence and how he is alone in this illusionary world. How he have a bad relationship with his father and disdaining the city he lived in. As he was a delinquent in High School he, out of a sudden finds a frail girl at the bottom of the hill towards school, unable to reach the top of the hill. At first Tomoya doesn't really care about Nagisa but then gradually helps her revive the drama club. Enter Sunohara Youhei, another delinquent that is friends with Tomoya decided to help her with this club.

At first the idea of reviving the drama club failed due to being “Invalid” to the council executives of the school. But as Nagisa tried to give her heart out to Kouko Ibuki, the former adviser of the drama club, the club was recreated again. While it failed on getting any new members, Tomoya, Sunohara and Nagisa is determined to stay in the club. Nagisa whom is determined to create a play for the Founder's Day Celebration, as Tomoya and Youhei is dragged into this. Tomoya was soon met by Nagisa's parents, Akio and Sanae of the Furukawa family. As they are former actors which retired due to Nagisa's illness.

When Nagisa performed as a solo performance for the Drama club, similar to the endings of the first season of Clannad. The only differences is that Nagisa has the courage to perform and wear her mother's wedding dress, while the anime series, Nagisa at first was too nervous in the stage but then was couraged by his father's words to do so. Soon after that solo performance by Nagisa, they graduated out of High School and Tomoya and Nagisa decided to get married. A few years later, after Nagisa was passed away due to giving birth to a daughter, Ushio. Which was named after to became stronger than her frail mother. Tomoya was in a current state of depression, and unable to coup with his life. While everyone: Sunohara, Tomoyo, Akio and Sanae tries to cheer him up as well as his father regretting being a bad father to him. Unable to help him.

Okazaki's father tells his friends to have a vacation ending up with Tomoya finally meeting up with his daughter, Ushio as they live together.

The differences and similarities between the movie and the anime series is confusing, while this whole sole purpose of storytelling pertains in the Visual Novels. On where you get to decide what branch of the story, you prefer. This movie mainly focuses on the relationship between Nagisa and Tomoya but only them. As the others characters like Fuko, Ryou and Kotomi is written out of the picture, leaving Kyou, Tomoyo, Kouko and Yusuke. I have yet still question why Kyou is with Tomoyo as they are both, council representations. As they are the ones responsible for making “Invalid” signs over Nagisa's drama club posters. Kotomi only makes a brief cameo, as she is the conductor of the choir. The story that persists in this movie seems to be too awkward if you have watched the anime series. The way of summarizing the Clannad story is somehow difficult seeing its based on the Visual Novel on which has different endings.

The art presentation is really different from the anime counterpoint. The common flaw is the art design. It doesn't have the beautiful illustration to dynamic design that was portrayed in that series. While this is not an adaption to the anime series but the first animated series that is based on the Visual Novel. It reassembles the art style of KEY's Kanon series. The illustration design of the environments encountered during the movie is quite gorgeous. It gives merits to the presentation that is given there. The character design looks good but not great, despite having the same appeal as Kanon did, it still weirds me out comparing the characters from the anime series towards this movie. Through the share of colourful schemes of Sakura's blooms to the Illusionary world, its looks quite entertaining and well done. KEY proved to create the art in their series to worth merit as its one of the moments that looks satisfying.

The sound/music performance is astounding through the Japanese cast. Each of its acting gives merit to the performance. As this cast from derived from the Visual Novels and the anime series. I was surprised how talented the cast are. The cast showcased human emotions through the Anime as its gives great merit. The sheer brilliance of delivering emotions on which the movie deliver is quite a shock, whether its from Nagisa's death or the illusionary world, it send a chill down my spike. The only common flaw is that Nakamura Yuichi, the seiyuu that voiced the role of Tomoya in the anime series isn't there. As the first animated series from the Visual Novel, Nojima Kenji takes role of Tomoya. From anime series like BECK and Guyver. The seiyuu for Tomoya, despite getting used to the normal seiyuu, provides a decent role as portrayed from his character. The emotions gives some merit of sheer acting that was given through his dialogue during the illusionary sequences. The music performance is also excellent. The opening, Megumeru sung by eufonius sounds wonderful and a sheer of excellence portrayed in the openings and theme of this movie. The opening transition with the introduction of Nagisa on which was unable to walk up the hill and Tomoya helping him seems to fit pretty much. The soundtrack that was provided for this movie has a sheer of brilliance as most of the arrangements consists of piano tracks to calm music that fits the theme of Clannad. Through its Nagisa's death to the High school, you can understand the level of emotion that was created through the music orchestration. The other existing theme is “Big Dango Family” was introduced in this movie as Nagisa was to sing it. The seiyuu, famous for his role as Rena in Higurashi no Naku sung this song and it felt cute as well as entertaining. Both of the openings and the endings were sung by eufonius whom provided a excellent performance, especially the ending theme which sounds quite epic as a Clannad series.

Overall, Clannad: The Motion Picture is entertaining and satisfying movie. Despite having this trend of “being” an adaptation of the anime series which is incorrect. It's a enjoyable experience that will satisfying everyone. Through its emotions moments of Nagisa's death to the enjoyable moments of Nagisa's rendition of “Big Dango Family” and Ushio really reuniting with Tomoya. It shows merit that this movie is quite charming to its fullest potential. While the common flaw of its art design still pertains and confuses me, its interesting to see the first animated series that is based on the Visual Novel. Through its sheer brilliance of the acting to the soundtrack, its a enjoyable experience that I keep on watching it again. It's yet confusing at first with collied with the anime series, seeing how there are no comparisons but yet confuses me to summarize the storyline. It is excavated pretty well, seeing the trials and tribulations that Tomoya has faced through his life and how his father helped him back to reality by reuniting by Ushio. The reunion of Ushio and Tomoya is rejoicing as Tomoya is relieved out of his current state of depression and as well as it introduces Ushio on which she was watched in After Story. One of the best anime movie that I watch recently and its quite worth it.

Ouran High School Host Club (2006)

Published by: BONES

Is disheartening to watch more and re-introduced myself into that category of harem/shoujo. It weirds me out, seeing this level of “pleasurement” of characters expressing their emotions towards each other. Then again, like I stated, you cannot resist it while you are watching it or be at disgust. Its these techniques of having a wild-up fantasy that is inducted towards the audience. More-so, being romantic to the same gender is just stereotypical to the minds of logical thinking. One moment of bigotry, is yet classify for “same gender romance” as yet as cliche as they could be. It might be at hand, that I opposed this but yet society have seen many of these stereotypes expressing their love in the same gender, that it feels just pathetic.

The recent anime that showcased this, is Ouran High School Host Club, in regards of having a long name to remember. I was quite skeptical at first towards this anime, but when I saw FUNimation producing as well as having scriptwriters, it was a point of being ironic to watch it. The result was Vic Mignogna, and I was quite surprised. As I stated before for showing this “bigotry” of the same gender, this anime is the answer to that. It wonders the whole “eye-candy” that Rosario + Vampire has, is like in this anime. Created by Hatori Bisco.

The story takes place in Ouran Academy, a school only for the wealthy and talented as refined as prestigious as it is. Settling in the modern backdrop, where the rich separated themselves from the commoners, as they called them. Haruhi Fujioka, a female scholar whom graduated to Ouran Academy. Who is annoyed with the gossip that denizens of Ouran and went somewhere, to finish her studies. Unfortunately, the room that she entered has a great presence. Enter the Ouran Host Club, a group where handsome gentleman gives hospitality and treat themselves as infotainments of entertaining to appease girls, while taking their money of course. The Host Club consists of Tamaka, the president and father, Kyouya, the vice president and mother, Honey-senpai, the shota-cute type for the female audience, Takashi, the wild type, and Hitachiin twins(consists of Kaoru and Hikaru) the devily type. Each of these characteristics, is showcased when the Host Club is in effect to appease and treat girls.

Haruhi suddenly stumbled upon them, as they question if Haruhi was a boy, seeing how she was dressed. With all the commotion, she faced with this Host Club, she suddenly tripped which caused a expansive vase to break. Causing Haruhi to pay 8 million yen(80 000), seeing how Kyouya can sense her instincts. On which, Haruhi couldn't afford the vase, causing Kyouya to repay her “debts” through the Host Club as member to entertain girls. First being a errand boy, in which purchasing the essentials for the Host Club, hilarity ensues when Haruhi brought “commoners” stuff, and Tamaka is there to taste it. As much of a incident of Haruhi over Tamaka's girlfriend jealously changing clothes, it was revealed that Haruhi was a girl. Keeping it a secret, in which case it will destroy the Host Club, they kept Haruhi to pretend a boy.

Through the few episodes, it somewhat reveals more of the characteristics of the Host Club, the president, Tamaka is rather “a idiot”, yet shows sympathy to others but more to his love his Haruhi. As others get acquainted in the Host Club, with more of a general appeal of same gender romance to appease girls. And through the course of the anime, it shows the past dilemmas of each character and how they got into the Host Club by Tamaka. As explained in the Black Lagoon review, it isn't much of a storyline but showing dilemmas and the Host Club activities. Haruhi seems to be in enjoying these activities, the Host Club apparels but yet doesn't see any hint of trying to pay her debt, only through giving services to the audience. Towards the end, it was hinted that Haruhi finally payed her debts through the course of Tamaka's disclosure of the Host Club. This is more-so, a fairly-tale story that was derive from Disney films of a essential of romance. The thorough examples is Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella on which a wealthy gentleman expresses his love for a commoner. The result of these examples, are compelled through the last episodes and isn't much of a surprise.

The art/visual presentation is quite compelling, as this is my first review that doesn't showcased the producers from MadHouse Studios. The apparel of the characters depicted in this anime is somewhat weird as, everyone is either “too skinny” or fat showing the apparel of Haruhi's dad and summer job employer to wear drag. Which in an art style looks ridiculous. The general apparel that the Host Club contrives is better yet “eye-candy” favoured, on which the romance of each character is portrayed through colourful schemes with red roses. The sheer amount of this artistic merit of the presentation is cliché but better yet it promises to have the visual style. The environments that the Host Club encounters are great and compelling seeing how episodes where they travel to places within Japan. But one of the faults is not illustrated through the depiction of the background, where you see only blobs as the character interacts continue. It shows doesn't show artistic merit, if you see a depiction of a filter background while the character interacts with it. The Chemistry derived from the environments they encounter is yet beautiful but yet shows a lesser depiction. The characters' visual style of the main protagonist on the other hand is alright of showing their depiction of being well-groomed and wealthy towards Haruhi. It's quite decent for a 2006 anime but yet the cliché of the harem/shoujo delivers.

The sound/performance is excellent, with both of the dub and sub as exactly to a great degree. The acting gives merit to the sheer brilliance of showcasing the same gender romance on which the Host Club delivers. Much of the suspect is Kaoru and Hikaru in both versions perceptively, the way their way of romance delivers, sending a chill down my spike as they are really passionated of their way of expressing love to each other. Each character of both versions, shows merits of acting even more-so the supporting cast of characters. Both of the versions of a great cast of voice actor/tress, that deliver their performance at the sheer excellence. It was renowned that Vic Mignogna, famous for his lead role as Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist delivers a top-notch performance as Tamaka, as a sheer difference between both version retrospectively. FUNimation not only licensed this anime but produced it like One Piece with a well-rounded cast and provided their own rendition of both the openings of endings of them. The music direction is one of the promised OST within this anime, having renditions of the opening/ending theme to set it upon a orchestral theme. Through the course of episodes, you are easily detect the sheer emotions that was delivered through. One of the other merits of this anime is the composition rendition of both versions' opening/endings. I was surprised that the FUNimation dub created their rendition of the opening's, Sakura Kiss and the ending. As it is not as much awful to hear but more compelling. Despite the opening sounding to much of a Canadian singer that I despise(Avil Langrvine), it still delivers a satisfying performance of both ends. It's is really compelling to hear these types of renditions and how they delivered as a whole.

Overall, despite the major criticisms that this anime delivers. The sheer lack of a storyline, appeasing “eye-candy” and the flaw of its visual style. Ouran High School Host Club delivers a satisfying experience as it pertains in that genre. Seeing Haruhi and the Host Club developed as a whole, with past dilemmas withdrawn in exchange for a sign of romance. Being same sex romance or being a fairly tale, it still promises to be great. The root in which was developed after Haruhi broke the vase has grown and she has no regrets in which she broke the vase. The consequence turned into a quite of a romance after being discovered that Haruhi was a girl and Tamaka as well as the twins, wanting in. Honey-senpai on the otherhand still remains to be lovable despite that he is a boy, its all the bigotry lifted on how each characteristics represent through these episodes. It was regretful to watch it but yet the ending leaves the fairly-tale to make it nostalgic on feeling it as like Cinderella.

Black Lagoon (2006)

Published by: Madhouse Studios

Somehow I'm a pessimist on the subject regarding anime, I totally understand the weird and crazy standpoint of different anime but yet they still have the same principle in regards of those aspects. Either harem, shoujo, drama or somewhat a bad depiction shows less creativity in minds but at which being part of a show that entertains us still. It's derivative plot points and character development makes us gain more ground but yet feel lesser to it being the same. That what strieves us to take these measures on anime, somewhat being cliche or regarded as “Fanservice” just entertains us. I personally is in that crowd but yet I don't feel compelled to watch those types of anime.

As I stated in the Trigun review, Cowboy Bebop is regarded to be a great anime for its “all those jazz” and awesome action. It strives me to watch more despite being episodic each episode. The aspect of the dub cast feels more like a Hollywood film with seiyuus like Wendee Lee somewhat matching the perfect fit with Faye Valentine. One flaw that compelates my hunger of more, is that it doesn't show too much violence and pure action. As typical as zealously, I am.

Is these depictions derive from being a share of realism, of no giant Gundams nor futuristic weapons makes me intrigued of the show. One common example of grotesque violence and pure action is Hellsing, setting in Britain now being infested with vampires/zombies despite being a vampire himself. Which I know is not being much realistic but the real-life locations and being regarded to have a quite excellent voice cast for the dub makes this anime that. Chorno Crusade is another example being compared to Hellsing but yet, it doesn't have that aspect of being “dark” but having some “eye-candy” action and romance.

Pretty much stated in the Monster review, the aspects of realism or Senienism makes it more compelling to watch. One of the promises, upon Christmas when bragging rights is upholded and awarded with a mind-blowing anime. Those promises was met, Black MotherF***ing Lagoon! Created by Hiroe Rei as he comprised this creation of a spectacular action flick with this “dark” violence and gristliness that I was promised. The action is like Cowboy Bebop but other aspect is like Hellsing with its “darkness”. I won't like to bring up Cowboy Bebop again but yet it feels that sort of way, like the Bebop crew hunting as bounty hunters for molawns(currency), the crew portrayed in this anime as outlawed as they are hunting the same boat as them. The drama aspect really doesn't reveal “too” much towards this season of anime but yet shares it with the action alongside a dish of violence.

The entirely what I liked in this anime is because of it acting the share of realism that I really hope to expect to add it in the Western Hemisphere. The act of gridlyness and being “dark” contrives that sense of it feeling like in fits in the category of our audience that is recommended to adults not just all for kids as their perception. That is my wish that became true, with the share of hot women, exciting action scenes, great use of profanity and no “eye-candy” that the other anime depicts upon. Black Lagoon has all of those aspects and it excites me to watch more. As well as showing how Japan is not that exciting as you expected in anime depiction.

Enter Rokuro Okajima, a Japanese salary man who just graduated and working at his job. While getting his ass kicked by his co-workers and employers, he was sent to South-Eastern regions of China to deliver a disc. But as the unexpected moment occurred and he was hijacked by a syndicate group of which is named the Lagoon Company. The Lagoon Company consists on Revy, a purple-hair sassy girl who prefers action over words as a gunslinger as she is, Dutch, the leader of this company who negotiates with his clients of doing all the “dirty” work and Benny, a Jewish computer specialist and mechanic. As being a negotiator, this Lagoon Company was sent to steal the disk, Okajima was delivering to.

Under heavy circumstances, his employer/boss was forced to vacate the disappearance of Okajima, promoting him and now focused on getting back this special disc. Whom Balalaika, the leader of a Russia syndicate of “Hotel Moscow” is negotiation with. As confused and panicked as Okajima can be, pissing off others especially Revy for his kidnapping. Going to a bar to stop his moaning with beer, upon competiting Revy on that contest, syndicates appeared being bored whom stumbled upon Revy's bad mood after getting bombarded at the bar. Dutch then tells Okajima that this kidnapping is over and he should depart. While Revy shows her “two-hands” gunslinging action, Okajima wants to be in this Company despite having being kidnapped, was offered in. After retreating, the syndicate was excited and ignorant to want “more action” against the Lagoon Company as they traced them to where they are heading to. No choice but to faced them, and eventually cornered by them having no choice but to turn back. Okajima's antics of planning was advised and the Lagoon crew have no choice to apply this strategy and it worked as his plan of firing a flare towards missiles and making an awesome jump through a lift of the abandoned ship. Causing them to fire those torpedoes, destroying the attack helicopter chasing them.

Once that was over, they were met by Balalaika and Okajima's boss as negotiations went through and a offer that he refused of returning being already dead for the kidnapping. Decided to rename himself, “Rock” in the Lagoon Company. After these introductions, the Black Lagoon, who is responsible for treating its clients to do all the dirty work went to Roanapur, where their HQ is located. Another client was met but as incompetent as this cilent is, angered by Dutch. Sent an armada of boats against the Lagoon Company, through Revy's handling on things no-one in that armada survived, causing that cilent to retreat but was met by Balalaika and was killed.

Usually the story in this first season of Black Lagoon is clearly kidnappings, getting a piece of German art, hijacking and “meeting its client expectations”. As being true of being a outlawed pirate as they are, it makes it worth entertaining to watch their adventures in the Eastern-China seas of them doing the “dirty work”. The Lagoon Company is what it makes a great cast of characters: Dutch the leader and the negotiator, a quite easygoing and calm person as well as another Black person in the anime which whom kickass, Benny, a Jewish computer specialist who is responsible for alerting the Lagoon company if danger approaches upon it, the newly added cast, Okajima “Rock” Rokuro who uses words over guns whom looks weird smoking a cigarette and my favourite: Revy, a purple-hair girl gun-tooting, easily bored, and angered as well as sassy. Her easily bored aspect of her characteristics makes its more lovable to me, as well as trying to speak English in the Japanese version which is cute.

Through Revy's mortal dilenmas of incompetence and her complications with Rock, graduately developed through episodes of being with him more. As its processed, it feels like Rock is likable within the Lagoon Company. While this first season doesn't reveal too much of any character's past dilemmas, but provide as being outlaws in the Eastern-China sea, it still makes it satisfying than confusing and just dull for not telling a story.

Each episode provides each aspect of greatness, through flying a boat through the fly and launching torpedoes on an attack helicopter to gridly woman-on-woman action with Revy and Roberta which provided the best and gorely action sequences in this anime. Provided that the last episodes of this season, revolves around Rock getting kidnapped again and Revy saving his ass is a great experience. But in regards, of being the best one in my opinion is Revy and Roberta fighting each other, while the Lagoon company and Balalakia is betting upon who will win in this “cat” fight of sassliness. It's just humourous as well as awesome to see Dutch, Benny, Balalakia betting upon whom while Rock complicating to stop it. This is one of the best girl-on-girl fights I have ever seen, not showing their cleavage but seeing them both trading punches, bruising them. The best drama aspect is when Rock and Revy is on a “date”, when Dutch told him to have fun with Revy, and ending up with almost killing Rock and developing Revy to be more likable and not as aggressive. Aside from the episodes on which somehow promotes abit of Facism, despite seeing a few signs that is offended in that type of audience upon which in the retrieval of a piece of German art's episode. Yet despite being offended, the aspect of this anime doesn't reveal much of its promotion of fascism through those episodes. When recovering the artifact and getting attacked by a syndicate of fascist zealots.

Near the end of this season, after Rock being captured and Revy meeting an Asian sword-wielding girl and her accomplice, a cracked-out paranoid 70-esque dude to rescue Rock from a group who held Rock as hostage. After rescuing him but not the briefcase and the person who shot the commanding officer who orders everyone to chase down them, “completing” the mission of retrieving, well almost.

The art presentation looks appealing and as gridly as the style that I was promise for. Again under the direction of Madhouse Studios, the environment illustrated by them feels realistic as livable, despite being the outlaw lifestyle that the Lagoon company has. During the Lagoon travels, the illustration of the Eastern-Chinese sea looks gorgeous to the fifthly streets of Roanapur, where the Lagoon's HQ is located. The real-life depiction of this fictional city feels like a town in South-Eastern regions of Asia, but yet the syndicate aspect of this town is what makes it more different as an artistic style of it. The conceptual design of the Lagoon company is quite unique as it becomes apparent that each of the cast shows some ethnic background. The encounters, through the means streets of Roanapur to the seas gives merits to the presentation as visual art of realism. The grotesque graphic action of Revy and the other encounters gives the merit of intense as their design was known for. While it isn't recalled that the visual design was more-so violent like Hellsing through their campaign. The Chemistry of its action sequences is presented by portrayed through encounters. This art design shows the real gridness of the “streets” and portrayed how the Lagoon Company does its job.

The sound/music performance is top notch as well. What makes it unique is that, both the dub and the sub has a well-rounded cast which shows excellent merit upon. It just a share of brilliance that is portrayed in each character with both of this renditions. Through its comedic purposes of Revy and Rock being there with the Lagoon Company is quite lovable. As I referenced through the Monster review, this anime also shows ethnic representation. What the bringing point of surprised was not only the German depiction but in regards of Roberta, in which the Japanese version feels more liable than its counterpart. Speaking Spanish, after kidnapping a young kid to a bar where the Lagoon company has met by Roberta and hilarity ensues when Rock is trying his best to translate that language while the disturber of the sub is thoroughly bashing Rock for his bad translating. I was surprised like Grimmer in Monster was unable to understand what the Czech underground movement was speaking that how brilliance the crew of this anime putted together its ethnically. The Japanese portion of this anime, is more hilarious to me because seeing how Revy uses profanity in English is more appearing than the dub. It confuses us being regarded that I watched most of the episodes in sub on which it was quite apparent that its somehow hilarious and awesome to hear ethnic language. The music performance opening by MELL is astounding and awesome as it feels like metal and singing in English. The opening fits perfectly of how awesome this anime could be, plenty of anime have a kickass opening but then it ended up to be mediocre. The music illustrated during the Lagoon travels is somewhat great as it contrives into the environment on which it was settled. The ending opens with a haunting score of seeing Revy's legs as she drops her guns and pants and with the ending shot of her grenade launcher. Looks badass!

Overall, Black Lagoon is a outstanding anime that I have watched. Through its presentation during Revy scolding at Rock to its intense action sequences on which is appealing to watch. Despite having a small story but being as a outlaw lifestyle sounds awesome that it doesn't require a story. It clarifies of being that perceptive of dealing with clients to do the “dirty work” as well as the dilemmas of Revy and her troubled past. But as this is only the First season, since they are three seasons in total. It is expected to have more of a history within the Lagoon Company. This is also considered as being exactly true to the dub version as their cast shows some merit to the performance perceived in this anime. Through the mean streets of Roanapur to the military base on which Rock is held hostage “again”, it feels intriguing to watch more and more. It's just the addiction level of appeaser which I hungered for and was answered by this anime. I regard this as being the best anime, I have seen during these past months. What will make this more appealing is that if Hayate from Combat Butler will appear in the anime and my wish was answered again! But only in one scene of that anime.

Monster

Published by: Madhouse Studios

Not much has been noticed that in my experience, as regards of a brilliant psychological and police drama anime experience. One of the known, psychological police-drama-esque is Death Note, where a certain honoured student, one day gets a hold of the Death Note and uses its potential to rid the world of crime and evil. But here comes the unexpected part when touched this Death Note, you become the owner and a Shinigami will become your follower until the owner dies or passes to another person. Another in regards of psychological horror is When They Cry(Higurashi No Goro Ki), a unknown mystery has occured and suddenly rumours has it that people went missing, through unexpected events, the characters soon murders themselves in a Battle Royal-esque for a certain specific reason.

Not that these two anime series are bad, they don't contrive on the perceptive on realism and script plot points somewhat favours more the main protagonists. There are in regards some realism aspects in anime but the supernatural/ridiculous part is yet over exaggerated and it makes it not feeling the sense of the depth of a interesting anime. It's not a case of favours, when it comes to this type of anime but other's perceptive on having protagonist and the story to be nonsensical and non-creative in regards to having it more in the anime-esque field of weirdness that I'm tired of today.

Many of promises wanting is to make a more intriguing, psychological horror that covers aspects of in depth realism which I never experienced perception through anime. Many of the promises were to make an anime that not only revolves psychological horror but in regards of a Invasion of the Body Snatchers-esque anime where no one can be trusted and the upbringing part to insanity that caused all this. Naoki Urasawa, a known publisher that created such hits as 20 Century Boys and Master Keaton, is known for this type of supernatural/horror that creates a rich experience and has that sense at least in my perceptive, the Invasion of the Body Snatchers-esque type anime.

When both, When They Cry and Death Note fuses together it becomes Monster, an anime series that feels a bringing point of insanity in regards that no one can be trusted that all started on saving a certain person. Monster contrives elements of Japanese horror but yet the good thing is that they don't show too much of it which makes it better. Much of the drama/psychological aspects through the course of the anime is the main protagonist's aftermath, when every suspects this person whom just saved a person's life is after him. The true horror is constrained through the insanity and the era of which this anime is portrayed. Everyone cannot be trusted through his adventures and it become apparent to him that to prove his innonence through the course of the journey. Making other people to not falling into contradictions and assumptions through the course of trying his best of helping people so that it cannot fall into that category.

It wonders that theme takes place in Germany, in 1995, making it another anime that takes place from Germany(Full Metal Alchemist). Yet this theme is more in depth of realism and references, Germany's history and more thoroughly, the fall of the Berlin Wall, after World War II. It also references, the aftermath of extreme-right that still remains during that period and the relations and conflicts after the break of Germany and through the course of the starting of the Cold War. But they don't reference the Cold War but the conflicts of West/East Germany and the Communist regime that occupied what is known in the West Germany, the Iron Curtain in regards on history. The prejudice that these fascism extreme-right organization that still have against Turkish and other ethnicial backgrounds is depicted in this anime which confides the main antagonist in regards of deceiving them upon.

Much of the following impressions that I have at the start of the anime, which I presume that its willings to be Trauma Centre-esque is somewhat yet wrong.

It takes place in 1995, in Düsseldorf, Germany. A neurosurgeon named Kenzo Tenma whom is known for his excellent skills in the medical field and a prestigious and rich person. Saving other people's lives and beneficing them to his fullest potential. In which the hospital he works in: Eisler Memorial Hospital. Having the fame of having the daughter of a prestigious hospital's director, Eva Heinemann, Tenma is enjoying his successful life but yet focusing more into the medical field of saving other people's saves. This success turned around when Dr. Tenma chooses a certain boy that recently arrived instead of the Mayor of this city to save them. Which causes the Director to demote Tenma for his undenying actions to help the boy instead of the mayor. Further actions was caused by a breakup with Eva, after getting demoted by the Director in favour of another. Little does he know, that this certain boy kills the Director and hospital staff and rendered Tenma, a suspicion of these murders.

Further years passed, a thief that committed murders and crimes was injured and Tenma was there to save him. Little does he know, that the certain boy whom have grown is there to kill that thief, making Tenma, a murderer for this atrocity. It comes apparent that Tenma is more involve with this certain growed person to find out who really is he and trying to prove his innocence by clearing his name for all of the consumptious contradictions that the authorities is willing to arrest him for. This certain moment is now making him, like a fugitive on the run from the authorities to find out the mystery behind this certain man that he saved.

During his “outlaw” travels, he met Anna/Nina Fortner a honoured law student at the University of Heidelberg and the twin sister of the certain boy. Which is traumatized by the psychological horrors of her past and struct by amnesia. Tenma tries to help her after she came into contact of his twin brother and the murder of her adopted parents. Through the course of the anime, Tenma discovers the origins of their past, the experience with extreme-rightest groups, while being tailed by a person send by the BKA, Inspector Runge as well as the authorities to arrest Tenma for the “ascused” murders happenings in Dusseholf. The origns of a daycare, known as a experimental facility, 511 Kinderheilm is the main focus through the mysteries of the twins' past and the orphanage that inhabit there.

Much of his travels was introduced by a certain boy, Dieter whom has been living with the Minister and has been tortured by him, trying to make him like Johan, the twins brother. Tenma then saves Dieter life and now he follows him as Dieter now has a friend. Through going other cities and towns, saving and tending to other people's injuries, attempting to clear his name, people yet has the sense of “good” contradictions that felt is needed through this world, just for introducing Johan into this world. For their displacement to Johan, as they feel that genocide and destruction is needed for him to appear and become the master of all of this. The extreme-rightest groups mostly portrayed in that as prejudice as they are. The mysteries were so-what revealed when Tenma finds General Wolfe, a veteran whom stumbled upon these two twins and raised them in 511 Kinderheilm for experimental purposes and also graphical quotes from Johan, trying to fool Tenma.

Nina Fortner is also on this case on trying to find his twin brother, as she unrambles the mysteries of her amnesia through the course of her horrifying childhood. While both are investigating through the course of going to locations of Frankfurt, Heidelberg. Enter Lotte and Karl, two students from the University of Munich whom is trying to investigate the mysteries of a dead son, but soon unrambled that Karl is this son. And introduced Johan in the picture which he clearly deceive Hans Georg Schuwald, also known as the Bayern Vampire, sights of killing his servants to come closer to him to deceive him easier. While Johan finally appeared, recent suicides of kids were reported through the mysterious teaching of Johan, where they think its a game of survival in which if a kid falls into his death, the other person left standing is the winner.

This mysterious supernatural occurances that was done by the extreme-rightest groups and orphanages can be close reminded to When They Cry, in which everyone going Battle Royal-esque on each other to claim the chosen one to by as regarded by Johan. It reminds that detail of that anime in this anime, in which its setting a more intriguing backdrop to the storyline. It's a far reminder of the insanity that Higurashi No Goro Go Ki has and Monster making that type of concept, more realism in the ways of the themes, portrayed in this. As regards for Death Note, on the other hand, the detective mystery of BKA's Inspector Runge and his accumulation calculations of this investigation as well throughly impervised in the veins of L, Lawliet. Trying to tailed Light as he conducted evidence and support through the group that was assigned to him. Both in regards of storyline may persist in this one, greatly handily to the indepth detail

Tenma soon discovers that Johan, the twins' brother is in Munich, as well as Nina Fortner whom is both allied on this case. Discovering that Johan is trying to destroy and haunt Hans Georg's life by first donating to the library, when his accompany henchman, Roberto whom stumbled across Tenma's journey is trying to assassinate Hans but all it failed and a new impervised plan was to set the library in fire. Tenma proving his innonence helped everyone out the library as well as tends to their wounds, but yet still the authorities presumed suspicion of Tenma. Through his escape and the doctors he met that tried to clear his name, he met more of the orphans of 511 Kinderheilm whom unreviled the true horrors of the experimental facility and how their emotions were affected through the horrifying phrase in their perceptive. It all ends when Tenma ended in Frankfurt, trying to tailed a man with glasses whom was there the mother gave birth to these twins and the experimentation of them. While Inspector Runge investigating on this “Johan” as well tailing him, discovered more about these sight occurances.

Nina soon remembers and yet traumatized by reading a certain picture book that was given to them in their childhood. As this picture book leds to the people behind this madness of the twins as well as the Mansion of Roses in which Johan finally discovers and knows the truth of his horrifying past. Now it was unreviled that Franz Bonaparta was the person, truly behind his and the mystery of their past. As Tenma, Nina as well as Johan finding Franz to remember the history of their childhood. That soon was gone when Tenma was arrested by the authorites and sent back to Germany from the Czechoslovakian borders. From all the events carried, Tenma soon escaped and continued on his hunt to clear his name but most importantly to find and kill Johan.

Near the end, everyone that is hunting him, Eva and Runge finally realizes that the “excuse” for Tenma's truth is a realization as they both tried to hunt down Johan. Through the unravellings clues that was discovered by Runge in which in regards he stills thinks Tenma is the one who is the murderer, but helps it in which to get closer to him. It's clearly been said, that pre/post contradictions and assumptions are always wrong even through convicted evidence that was left to be false. The same vein as like Death Note, in which the main protagonist thinks the world is fulled with crime and the only answer that justifies is to rid them all. All of these similarities are further obsolete through unsupported evidence and these beliefs that made them insane for these contradictions. The main protagonist is not on the hunt for that but to prove his innocence and yet to hunt down Johan to end it, that is only because he is the only reason that started these supernatural occurances. Not to be criticize Death Note more, but the only main favours of Light not being caught is because of the script's bias on other people's perceptive and making Light as intelligent as gifted unlike everyone which seems too much unrealistic to the point of ridiculous nonsense.

The more supernatural part of this anime is unexpected that it reveils the theme that there is no Monster but a depiction of it that was presume by other people's characteristics.

The art presentation of Monster looks appealing as character and design looks more the point of realism figures and not over exaggerated infigurements of humanity. Under the direction of MadHouse Studios whom did Trigun, we see that it improved since then. Monster's conceptual design of characters is fanastic as portrayed in realistic in real life. The only common flaw is some recycled design of some conceptual design but yet it doesn't persists in the anime that long which makes it great. The encounters that Tenma seems more appeal to the theme. The environment responds to how Tenma is portrayed through Europe and describes and visualizes each encounters' merit of their background. No over exaggeration was created through nonsensical things like stereotypes in Germany. What is left is being creative on the visual art design through the course of Tenma's journey. Each place that Tenma went looks beautiful as if I really want to go there, to the fields of Germany to Frankfurt, Munich and Czechoslovakia it renders the realism as if the creators of this anime went to these specific locations in Germany and remapped it to portrayed in anime. The Chemistry of it looks jaw-dropping through its horror and the drama art presentation is presented through each character portrayed and the regime of extreme-rightest encounters. The textures from a 2004 perceptive of art looks great but somehow the flaw is that its less appealing to others since its five years ago and since then anime has been evolved more thoroughly.

The sound/music performance is top-notch, yet we still haven't heard the dub impressions of it. The acting gave merit of brilliance through its well-told story. Being as a serious-written drama horror, the seiyuus of this anime series delivered a fanatic performance of indepth detail emotions to each merit's performance. It shows true presentation that the seiyuu even takes the backdrop of the theme and speak the language of the ethnic background there. Which reminds me more of Gankutsuou where the protagonist speaks fluent French in each in depth detail. It surprises me how the dedication they were to put into context of detail in this anime, like for example how Grimmer didn't understand the language how the criminals were saying and trying to speak to them in German. All this may confuse you through, since its Japanese but it becomes apparent through the course of the anime that it seems more realistic than a pure fantasy that these guys created. It astounds me that they are taking an anime seriously as well as the theme and learning the language portrayed it that. The Music direction sets the theme towards the genre as a horror drama that represents in a psychological merit. Through its haunting score during the travels of Tenma to the alert score when Tenma is being chased. It more-so fits in place to the anime, while others criticize as its being boring, they think too childish too these situations. The opening towards this anime is set after the previous chapter was summarized or the claims of the theme towards this specific episode. Opening with chanting and then entering with a Bass drums through its chanting mixed upon it to show much of the insanity but yet more X-files-esque like but even better experience.

Overall, Monster is a yet the best horror drama I ever watched, to its graphical imaginary of the horrors of insanity, a well-told story to its creative use of sound. Since the dub of Hellsing, where it shows creative merit of thoroughly using its voices, Monster clarifies that these sorts of anime exists. To not be as exaggerated as others are and tend to be more creative in regards of the performance. The well-told story where Tenma is being chased while uncovering and hunting down Johan is astounding as it represents the insanity that Johan created. It also sets during the era of underground extreme-rightest groups, the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the separation of Germany in regards of West Germany. These references that was explained that led to 511 Kinderheilm feel real as if its was more of a fantasy but yet its clearly stated that there is no real life depictions of this so-called Monster but portrayed in other people's merits. The drama aspects is saddening as how they portrayed it in the anime, its worth depressing that exggerated. To be Honest, I think this is one of the most well-told to awesome anime in this era!

Trigun (1998)

Published by: Madhouse Studios

In the incoming end of the late 90s, with Anime popularity starting to spread across the world and the word "Otaku" seemlingly appears not a derogatory term, anymore. Such hits like Akria, Gundams, shoujo to shonen, and much of the craziness of Japanese culture, dominating at(or at very least) the Western hemisphere. You wouldn't believe that anime could be quite a trend to the Western hemisphere, through the stereotypical times much similar to those of fantasy-related people whom people believed that they are overweight and still living at their parents' house. Much like the similarity of the Nintendo Entertainment System, launching in New York but with less quality than quantity. Even though, these stereotypical times through a piece of Japanese culture in our lives, yet its too addictive to not watch/read it. It could/or not be a hinderance to those whom watched a dish of American culture and read comics. each day. And yet back then with Anime was introduced to the Western Hemiosphere. it wasn't that popular/yet uncool to enjoy it, unlike reading DC/Marvel comics with the awe-rocking entertainment.

Much of that turned during the late-90s and the introduction of the 20th century, when Anime was soon appeared to have volunteers or known voice actors to dubbed the anime. While some failed and others were mediocre, we were introduced but a unpresedented company, Sunrise. Whom was among popular with mecha anime/Gundams and created one of the true treasured anime that invented the word "cool" to Anime. Cowboy Bebop, it seems to be a success in the United States with a type of music, that was never heard in Anime culture. Jazz/Blues and the way that the artist/composer, Yoko Konno can create such of an awe-inspiring Blues soundtrack. And yet, without this kind of musical performance, or if Yoko Kanoo was directing it, it would just like Outlaw Star. These musical performance might be inspired by such famous performances like Louis Armstrong and such.

After the popularity of Cowboy Bebop and probably Samurai Champloo, Yasuhiro Nightow and under the art direction of Madhouse Studios directed another anime that is in the same led of "coolness" and yet to either cowboys or samurai. That anime was Trigun, much leading the same genre to Cowboy Bebop, Sci-fi, Comedy to Action-oriented/Drama. Both has its key moments and similarites but wasn't apparicated enough towards now. The valor of both Cowboy Bebop and Trigun created a great atmosphere with its music, drama and excitement to others.

Seemlingly set in the same vibe as Cowboy Bebop has, a deserted environment. Much has realized that this could be much cliche, it appealed as that the protangist in this Anime is a Pacifist. Vash the Stampende but as well known as the "Humanoid Typhoon", as it was rumored and speculatated that this "Typhoon" caused the destruction of July. It is now known that Vash carry a bounty on his head, much similarity of Rurouni Kenshin as a wandering samurai, Vash is wandering marked bounty whom both want peace but everyone is out to get them. Vash's bounty is set more than 6billion dollars as similar to Spike Spiegel whom is to the lesser value(or probably molawns could be a higher a value) as well as Kenshin. Unlike lesser similarities between Kenshin, Vash seems to have two personalities: one personality seems to be Comedic at its own right, as Vash uses this as to not draw attention from others whom saught get his bounty, spreading "love and peace" remarks and valuing the lives of others, feeling symphony for their life and a person whom cheers others up at this point of sadness. The other is revenge/selfish sacrifices or suicide, when someone in value gets killed/injured, turning into these so-called "Typhoon" others speculating to kill the ones whom killed them. Thus so, Vash also values the lives as those ones whom are after him, regretting to ever killed them as he is scared of blood. Enter Meryl and Milly, both working in the Insurance Co. whom is investigating Vash, as their job. Throughout the episodes, Meryl and Milly, especially Meryl seems confused to unable to understand. that this fun-loving peace Pacifist is living a life through helping people(as Kenshin does that too) and just as a normal person. It was soon speculated that through the events of the anime, Meryl saw/speculate that this isn't the Vash, she saw. Confused as she is, unable to trust Vash to his words, as everyone is after him for: greedness, selfish, orders from their master and being homeless/poor, vengeance.

Vash in regards shared that symphony with others, and managed to help them as best as he can. Seemlingly Meryl and Milly created more attention to others, while others theorized, speculate, contradict that Vash did utmost destruction to their lives through this belief. As the antonagist and others used this advantage to take the blame to Vash, as he was marked. Throughout these episodes, Vash attempt to be generous to others, and keeping a oath to his only parent, Rem. As Rem stated that she wishes to have a haven of peace and prosperity and Vash wishes to keep that oath that Rem wished. Remembering the song that Rem created to remembrance of her. Making this relationship possible to the ones shared with Spike Spiegel and his love. Vash's true purpose in this entirely, was to save/kill his brother whom is opposite to him, after his brother, Knives massacre the lives of Vash's beloved friends and his love/parent, Rem. Disdaining Humans as: selfish, arrogant, insolent and imperfect organism and waiting to get rid of humankind as of people criticizing both Vash and Knives as Monsters.

Through Vash, Meryl and Milly's adventure, a priest on the same vain towards Vash, Nicolas Wolfwood through to spread the light on people. As generous as Vash, Wolfwood accompany him, through his adventures. Spreading peace and helping others. Throughout the course of the anime, Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl and Milly encounter the Gun-Ho gang whom whose scared Vash and manipulate others into believing Vash is a killer. Legato who doesn't values his life to torment others. This struggle between Vash knowing that prejudice, contradiction, assumptions and beliefs, suffered him badly but to a extent, has the redemption to meet his brother, Knives again.

The art presentation of Trigun is quite good but not great. Under the direction of MadHouse designing this anime. Many characteristics of anime art between back-then and now is quite similar. Trigun has many flaws on regards to its artistic presentation, the most common flaw is character design. Many of those encounter Vash, and others seems to have the same build as others, appealing before. Most of the time, some males seems to look similar to females and females as males, confusing at first but understandable later. The textures of these designs, represent uncreative ideas surrounding their character design as well as some environment events. Yes, this is in fact created in the 90s but to be honest, Cowboy Bebop seemingly have creative to simplistic character design that seems more appealing. While the other flaw is in most of the anime right now, seemingly, confusing male/female designs as they awkwardly whose voiced under. It doesn't give a huge mark on the series, although the antagonist to menacing villains in this anime has a depth of detail within them.

The Sound/music performance seems to be a mixed response as the dub is eventually interesting that the japanese version. The acting gave merit of brillance but through the course of the anime, some-to-most of the acting is recycle and used to be quite repeatable. While during the release of this and others cool anime, it wasn't that quite of popular within Japan, hiring unknown voice actors to untalented ones but in truth, the quality of their voice work(in Trigun) seems to be alright. When the dub version of this anime was released, rivaling/on the same vein as Cowboy Bebop(hiring infamous voice actors, Steve Bloom and Wendee Lee), hiring now-known voice actor, Johnny Young Basoh. It seems to be quite interesting, making dubs towards this generation, more watchable than the original version.  While this didn't hinder much of the reason of a perfect score. The Music direction under Yoko Inoue and Tsuneo Imahori proved to be quite a match between, Yoko Kanno performance of "Tank" and "The Real Folk Blues" making both of these anime very "Cool" and Amazing. It seems that Rock has given the result of a perfect score, having a creative opening with visual representation and a perfect choice for this song to have on a opening.

As stated before, Vash's characteristics in this anime has split personalities, either of which shows syphomy. Throughout Vash's adventures with Wolfwood, Meryl and Milly, you get to know much of his personality and symphonized for it. Even though many is after his head, Vash shows symphony to others to help the best as he can through his adventures. He was known to wander from town-to-town as a wanderer(much like Kenshin) to try to have a peaceful living, spreading "Love and Peace" quotes, helping others, while giving people a better time. But since, Meryl and Milly was introduced, many took up arms to kill him and take the bounty awarded 6Billion dollars. Vash seems to struggle and standup even those whom betrayed or kill him and yet still shows symphony and as generous as he can. Getting criticize for this speculatated rumor/belief that Vash leads a gang or a utmost terrorist and terrified to even be with him. His life seems to be much as miserable as well as those of the antogonists, getting to have prejudice from people and arrogance as others: either threatened, beaten upon, close to death and more terrorizing things that they despise upon.

To be honest, Trigun seems to have more of sad story as problems torment Vash, each and everyday, deceit and contradiction, speculating from others to have his head. While Meryl and Milly creating attention to the public, and Vash unable to be alone as he doesn't want to be alone but has too. Through the course of the anime, his friends and memories proceeded upon him, creating more torment and suffering to Vash. Until meeting, his opponents, they are even more cruel as they knew, Vash's weakness and the value of humankind cannot continue to come to him. Even with his lost-to-regain of his lost memory, Vash still values and shows symphony making them feel great and having a great time. Its like a walking contradiction. This anime seems to be yet sad but others criticize this as a lesser dramatic show, while other anime shows shows a lack of reasoning, more of a cliche, uninteresting to unprecedented quality of Drama. Making some-to-most anime drama, more of a cliche than others. This feels like a slice of life, as a veteran of reallife wars could respect, knowing that you will get amounts of prejudice, judgment and suffering at war. Wanting to stop killing others as they are valuable and isn't "entertainment or fun" to kill them. Its the symphony of the anime that is reminiscent of wars like WWII, or even the Vietnam War, when veterans returning home but was greet with disrespect, prejudice and contradictions. Regretting on every lives, they killed in the war, on a verge of insanity or scarred to do so. You may think that its cool to be in a war or getting criminalized for something you didn't do/couldn't remember but in truth, its cruel and brutal to experience a death of the lives of the living.

Overall, Trigun seems to be underrated to the fact that Cowboy Bebop is on the same vein as this. With a intriuging storyline, character development to the performances of a "Rocking soundtrack" and a representation of Western music similar to Cowboy Bebop. Trigun proceeds to be quite an awesome anime to those to enjoy. Much like Renshin and Spiegel, Vash shows some-most personalities, creating a fun-loving character to enjoy. And also Wolfwood's outfit and some characteristics are similar to Spike Spiegel, wearing the similar outfit(same colour, but with only some differences) and smoking a bent cigarette as both of them has. And to Legato and Wolfwood, I'm saddened to these whom have fallen, I simply showed emotion towards them as they were quite fanastic characters to enjoy through the course of the anime. To be honest, Legato seems to have the better power than others in anime out there, he doesn't have to write on the notebook and use his Geass to control others, to kill someone. Its like his mind is doing it, unlike the Geass where you need to face infront of the person you are targeting or searching names to write on some notebook to kill someone. No. This seems to be more interesting than those.

Lucky Star (2007)

Publisher: Kyoto Animation

PROS: Seinfeld...with anime!? Live-action Madness! Minori Shirashi, Otakuness! Hilarious, enjoyable. And MINORI SHIRASHI!

CONS: The storylines fails short, relies on too much dialogue, and randomness!

Have you ever wanted an anime that is so random that it’s similar to Seinfeld? Instead of male adults, the viewer gets cute high school girls set in and the random stuff is all otaku-related. Then, Lucky Star is your kind of show. The show mixes the elements of random stuff from Seinfeld and adding a bunch of otaku-related references. It’s essentially a show about nothing, just like Seinfeld. Lots of conversations the character have deal with different topics ranging from anime-related to cultural-related, as true as "real" otakus do. I hoped that the Soup Nazi will jump out but instead we got Meito Anisawa.

As this is a show about nothing, many would criticize that it is a lot like Azumanga Daioh. It focuses consistently on the parody-related humour it has while avoiding the contact on having dilemmas or anything else than that other anime persists. It's derivativeness of being an Azumanga Daioh-clone is just not the case because there is creative stuff like the live-action to the Lucky Channel segment that is aired in each episode. (And of course - Aya Hirano.)

Speaking of Aya Hirano who played a role as Haruhi Suzumiya in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, she ironically did the voice for the main character for Lucky Star - Konata. What is ironic is that both shows are associated with each other and you will generally get an insight of Haruhi-related references in this series. As I explained before, this show focuses consistently on its parody-related content, causing to wind up that Seinfeld-esque vibe of having primarily much dialogue in the scene instead of having an awkward scene after another and transitioning to different topics. Such random topics include how Konata eats her chocolate-cremed dessert, the compensation of Kagami and Tsukasa being genetic twins, and Miyuki going to the dentist. These conversations make great entertainment for us, but sometimes it persists too long and at times can get boring or long-winded.

The topics change as each episode progress, but it mainly focuses on Konata living as a hardcore otaku. Each episode discusses various anime-related to cultural-related references that an "otaku" watching this show would be shocked over. Many of these references ended up as a parody by censoring the name of that specific show they are referencing, for either prevents lawsuits or just mild entertainment. Ranging anime/video game references include: Full Metal Panic, Inital D, Pokemon, Gundam, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, The Girl who Lept through Time, Super Robot Taizen, Street Fighter, Phoenix Wright and the most prevalent of all The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. There are also Japanese cultural-references like the New Years Festival to other supplemental events that are a touchstone of 's culture.

As I have stated before Aya Hirano plays Konata, a short but long, blue-haired girl who is obsessed over anime and videogames, yet not appealing as a girl. Hiiragi Kagami is a tsundere girl whom always scolds at Konata and hilarity ensues every time. Tsukasa, the twin of Kagami, is a frail and shy girl. Miyaki is the girl whom Konata mocks her for "having a nice body". Each episode consists around the adventures of this cast, going to places like Akiba, high school, the Festival, and Konata's maid cafe on which she is cosplayed as Haruhi Suzumiya. There is also the Animate shop where Konata always goes for her anime-related things, as Meito Anisawa, the manager whom is her rival, calls her "Legendary Girl A". Meito attempts at all costs to persuade her to buy his anime merchandise but fails every time. Furthermore, Konata goes to Comiket every year as Kagami and Tsukasa goes with her. Hilarity ensues as Kagami apparently has a fetish with Yaoi dojinshi and becomes embarrassed about it.

Each episode consists of the Lucky Star Channel segment hosted by Akira Kogami and Shiraishi Minoru. Akira has a transcending attitude, one as a harmless and cute and the other as raw-voiced, chain-smoking girl. The attitude is always changed by Minoru as either he interrupts or annoys her during her segment of the show. The way they represent this segment is funny. To bad-mouthing Minoru, having "a fire incident" with Meito, a guest appearance by Daisuke Ono while Minoru is fetching mountain water to give it to Akira, causing their set to be destroyed and Goto Yuko to asset the situation with her biker attitude. All of that is quite a mouthful to see especially after the randomness of an awkward setting that the show persists on. After this segment, the credits role but these are not the boring credits that every anime has with an ending theme. Sometimes, hey showcase Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki singing in a Karaoke bar as they sing many anime openings and famous Japanese songs. They sing these songs using Karaoke. There are also live-action shorts of Minoru as he sings things like the opening theme of Lucky Star, "Take IT! Sailor Uniform!" He also has antics with Akira's seiyuu, Hiromi and Tsukasa’s seiyuu, Kaori Fukuhara by having a contest on Minoru Shiraishi’s ability to sing various songs quickly. There’s also Hiromi singing a song while wearing a kimono (which is pretty hot!). One of the best live-action music video-esque shorts is when Hiromi is dressed up in a wedding clothes and towards the end of it, Minoru wears the dress. Everything is sung and it’s quite nice to hear the seiyuus sing.

As far as it goes, Lucky Star is a show about nothing. It follows the elements of Seinfeld with poured out Japanese elements that. One ironic thing about this series is that both the dub and Japanese version have the same voice actor who played Haruhi Suzumiya and Konata. The seiyuus changed the tones of their voice from Haruhi to Konata in an interesting way. One great scene ends with a rendition of "Hare Hare Yukai" with the branded cast of Nagato and Patrica, a replacement for Mikuru during the dance in a maid cafe no less. There is just a mouthful of Haruhism that you will dig; if you enjoyed finishing Haruhi Suzumiya and end up watching Lucky Star. Another ironic aspect is that Haruhi’s cast: Daisuke Ono, Sugita Tomokazu, Goto Yuko and generally Nagato make camoes or is one of the characters in this show. The opening depicts the entire show, but you don't understand what they are talking about sometimes and there are random assortments they perform with all the casted seiyuus in this show. If it’s unrelated enough that you don't care about random conversation, Lucky Star is definitely for you.

Blue Velvet (1986)

Directed by: David Lynch

Starring: Kyle MacLachlan, Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossellini

Words cannot describe how David Lynch’s work can comprehend. All I could think is comparing one of his works to ‘Blue Hole Sun’ by Soundgarden which is entirely a mind-fuck to witness. It’s these sorts of things that are intriguing and completely insane at the same time. You can get into the ending of this film, pondering why you have watched this or being philosophical about it. David Lynch’s work is exactly like that, he creates a world of uncertainly and upmost insanity that is clearly psychopathic. ‘Blue Velvet’ exemplifies a world of insanity.

Blue Velvet is about one person’s curiosity played by Kyle MacLachlan; as he one day stumbles upon a severed ear. Not satisfied with the police Kyle’s character, Jeffrey had undergone this investigation into his hands and his girl-friend, Sandy. This investigation had entered him into a world of evil, of uncertainly and horror, as he ventures into an apartment. He believes that he will find clues for the investigation but what he found was a living nightmare.

Enter Dorothy, a singer at a local club who lives in the apartment that Jeffrey is investigating. She soon discovers him lingering in her apartment and the scenery changes as he had entered into an evil world. At the same time, he encounters Frank, the owner of the local club which Dorothy sings at. This is where the true evil is harness and the insanity that Dorothy faces. As Frank does disturbing things to her, manically while coughed up with drugs which he breezes into. Jeffrey therefore helps Dorothy in this world that she cannot escape as he is parallel to both worlds.

David Lynch’s narrative to this story is utmost astounding and brilliant. He created a film that requires no sense of a storyline but a theme, in which it portrays morality, good or bad. You could easily understand the theme of this narrative, the morality of which Jeffrey encounters through the story. First he witnesses an inhumane image that is grotesque and awful in which Frank Booth, violently attacks Dorothy, this caused a trauma as well as her sanity. Jeffrey had entered into the bad side and an investigation to look further into.

In this bad side, he faces the insanity of Frank Booth, as he overdoses with a drug. This drug affects Frank into a real psychopath that is both insane and inhumane for human eyes to see. I really cannot describe the visual that pertains in each scene with Frank Booth. It feels like a work of art rather than the plot. It is a visual representation of collagists that represents the gruesome horror and the nightmare that Jeffrey has over the course of the film.

An example of the good side is when Jeffrey is dancing with Sandy; you could see a bright light, lingering about. These two sides represent the storyline, Dorothy’s mortal dilemma with a psychopath and Sandy. The theme of this film was express through the contexts of the beginning in which Jeffrey’s father has a stroke and a glimpse at bugs. It is not the case of the stroke but the glimpse at the bugs that represents the storyline that Jeffrey soon encounters. At the end, you could see robins as they eliminated the bug as they are described as the good side. The film is but a nightmare turning into a dream.

The lighting in this film is the essence of the plot. You can see the lighting as it represents a dim and dark contrast when Jeffrey enters the bad side. When he enters into Dorothy’s apartment to bear witness Frank’s psychopathic ways. Especially the disturbing scene when Jeffrey sees two (one) corpses in Dorothy’s apartment which the corpses have missing ears. The good side however is when Jeffrey visits Sandy as you could see a bright shining light that contrasts.

In conclusion, this is not a film but simply a piece of art. It is surprising how Lynch can interpret these scenes within the Hollywood sound effects that we see today. His scene requires no daunting music that hints what is coming up next. It is just magnificent how he contrasts both good and bad such as a morality. It is no wonder that these classics, brilliantly give you the narrative without any resent of confusing us. I’m often curious as to how the actress played by Dorothy, can act when she is naked in Jeffrey’s garden and being tortured by Frank Booth. It’s the sheer brilliance of Lynch’s work to interpret and direct the scene that contains disturbing scenes like that. This piece of art is recommended to all audiences who feel nostalgic of the classics, specifically horror or supernatural films. It is a intriguing piece that should be remembered as a wondrous piece of art display.

The Bucket List (2008)

Directed by: Rob Reiner

Starring: Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman plays a mechanic, Carter Chambers with lung cancer who had to stay at the same room of the hospital with a billionaire, Edward Cole who also has the same diagnoses. At first things didn't go off well with them in the same room, having said that Edward owns privatized hospitals and with the "two beds, no exception" rule and a lawsuit beforehand that was been settled between two parties. But later on, they become best friends fighting cancer to the fullest extent through meaningful friendship.

One day, Carter decides to make a "Bucket List" that was used for his Philosophy Class but Edward decides to read it unbeknown to Carter and tried to convince him to live life to the "fullest extent" or "before they kick the bucket" by taking him on a road trip of things that they didn't do before going to places like Paris, China, India and Egypt to see the Pyramids to going "sky-diving" and Edward getting a tattoo. But what Carter really wants in his ambitions were to "see something majestic" by going to the Himalayans in Tibet.

This movie is really something like Cocoon, where the morale is that "You could not be too old for anything", and that's what they both tried to do through the "Bucket List", from kissing the most beautiful girl to "Helping a Complete Stranger". While as that movie is about having the elderly being contacted with the ability to feel younger, stronger and happy through rejuvenation of the cocoons is more of a Sci-Fi, this movie is about them fighting lung cancer and trying things that they had never done before through "The Bucket List" and the help of Edward throwing his money away.

Director Rob Reiner who is known for directing such movies as "The American President" or "When Harry Met Sally" did a outstanding job giving this comedy-drama, more life and you could easily be well-attached to two people who decided to do something out of the ordinary. Though the CG part with the "sky-diving" was hilarious as you could easily see that it's totally CG and not real like the other locations that Edward and Carter went to (i.e riding a motorcycle on the Great Wall of China). The fantastic performance by Jack Nicholson as billionaire hospital magnate, Edward Cole and mechanic, Carter Chambers shows in this movie and their everlasting friendship was eternal through their journey of living life. It's a lovely and feel-good movie like Cocoon that in the end, you will probably feel emotionally attached to their journey.

Video Game Review - Command and Conquer: Generals
Genre: RTS
Published by EA GAMES
Developed by EA PACIFIC

The Middle-East can be the bad place. A place that is conquered by war and games, games like Command and Conquer: Generals. This game plays in the middle-eastern influences that we have today, such as a plethora of games and movies today and believed to recruitment tool of the government. This type of modern-esque games can be cool, seeing real units from the US military are in play in these games. It is my dream coming to reality, seeing crusader tanks to tomahawk missiles on the battlefield with stealth bombers flying above them. It’s just amazing.

C&C: Generals is a RTS game created by Westwood and published by Electronic Arts, which is probably the last game that we see that Westwood created. Its previous contenders, C&C: Red Alert 2 was known for its wacky humour and game-play which was complimented with better graphics and features. Now, Generals created something different and steer away from the majority of C&C games like Tiberum Sun to Red Alert.

As you entered the title screen, you see something different; it isn’t a plain screen with some animations but a look into the game-play which has an isometric view as you see a group, defending while the opposing force is swarming them. This is something that looks awesome in that era, seeing a fully 3-D view and it is truly eye-popping to witness.

The campaign consists of three sides; you can choose the patriotic Americans, the people’s republic of China and the deadly Global Liberation Army known as the GLA. Also it contains a tutorial which contains one mission, teaching you some of the basics of Generals. Each campaign consists of seven missions who follow the example of Starcraft which goes in chronological order, starting from China, GLA and the US.

Starting from chronological order, China starts off in the most controversial where the GLA ambushes the Chinese military parade at Tiananmen Square, ending up with a nuclear explosion, destroying it. From there on, the Chinese army strived to liberate their territory from GLA and drive them back to their lands. The GLA however is recovering from the Chinese attack and focus on retrieving their military strength, on the series of attacking the US and Chinese forces. And finally, the US finishes the GLA which the first mission is reminiscent of the real war of Iraq and then drive them back to their headquarters in Kazakhstan.

Each mission opens a briefing screen which tells you the objective like previous C&C games, the big difference between those games is the cinematic opening for each missions. The cinematic openings contains of only game-play which is weird because the C&C series is the stable of full-motion video and this game lacked it. But it compensates with a 3-D isometric view which you can zoom in the battlefield or switch to a 360 angle view to change the camera of the battlefield.

Each side has its specialties and their way to play. The US plays technological as they focus on technologies like lasers, tomahawks, a strong air-force, unmanned drones to either repair or scout, aurora bombers to particle cannon that are reminiscent of the ion cannon in the Tiberian Sun game. The problem is that their units are expensive and lack the resources to fund them. China uses hordes and nuclear power as their advantage, encouraging you to produce hordes and compliments with propaganda towers, napalm, gattling guns to producing two basic soldiers instead of one. The problem is that they move slower and can be ambushed by the US air-force or the GLA. The GLA however acts with no power and air supremacy, ending up with deadly tactics like toxic tractors, terrorists, quad cannons to SCUD storm which rains missiles of poison and destruction to their foes.

Also each side is complimented with their perspective powers, as you defeat units in the battlefield, you can get experience which is used to purchase “General Abilities” to further strength the outcome of the battlefield. Each side possesses a different one, the US powers relies majority on air supremacy and exclusive units (paladin tanks and snipers), the Chinese relies on promotion of units, one exclusive unit (nuke cannon) to artillery support and the GLA power relies its ambushes emplacements, toxin drop, bounty bonuses to some exclusive units (hijackers to marauder tanks).

The game-play interface is reminiscent to Starcraft and Age of Empires where the HUD is at bottom which is different than its predecessors. Like other RTS games, you can acquire supplies from supply piles which can be gathered by building a supply center. Each side had different types of vehicles to acquire resources; the US acquires resources from a Chinook and also can take the role as a transport, the Chinese acquire resources from a supply truck and the GLA acquires resources from a worker which is used to build buildings.

What is different from its predecessors, is that you need to build workers or dozers to construct buildings rather than queuing up a building and placing up within your perimeter. The advantage of building dozers is that you can build any-where in the map, provided that you safe-guard your dozer to that location. Also these builders can remove traps like the demo trap to Chinese mines. Similar to other RTS, you need to build basic buildings to advance to the higher ones, provided that you have sufficient amount of power when you played as the US or China.

The US with air superiorly and technological advance units are quite expensive especially when faced to upgrade them, they lacked the sufficient amount of supplies to produce a large army and acquire further resources like supply drop-zones. Their buildings are powered by Cold Fusion Reactor which can be upgrade with Control rods to increase power input. As the US is elitist to air, there are a plethora of upgrades to improve your air-force with deadly proficiency. The ground forces, like crusader tanks, missile defenders, snipers to tomahawk missiles can be deadly as-well, provided that you can see good micro-managing among them. Infantry like Rangers can be upgraded with Flash-bangs which can clear out buildings and other infantry.

They start with a satellite radar which you can use it to reveal hidden areas on the map and can see the mini-map without any upgrades. They also can build a detention center which has the ability to reveal the whole map. Other buildings such as the Strategy Center is the HUB for upgrading units, furthering the building tier and can choose either bombardment which raises the attack power and fires nearby enemies, “hold the line” which boosts units and structures’ defense and “search and destroy” which increases unit and buildings’ range. Their main source of defense is the patriotic missile which can connect to other patriotic missiles, resulting in a strong line of defense against their enemies. And finally, the particle cannon which is the super-weapon for the US and like the Ion cannon from Tiberian Sun, it can move in a straight line causing havoc upon units and structures.

The Chinese with the power of producing units quickly and the usage of propaganda can be deadly first but weak second. Building hordes of units can be suspected but with ambushes like GLA SCUD launchers or the US air-force can be resulted as fatal to China. The Chinese focus on napalm strikes from their MiG aircraft and inferno cannons, propaganda towers which heal them to nuclear warfare like nuke cannons to the deadly nuke. Their buildings are powered by Nuclear Reactors which special ability, “over-charged” can increase power but decreases the health of the reactor. While MiG can be deadly against ground forces, it doesn’t compare to the US air superiorly. China relies on ground forces, which you can upgrade them into more of a formidable foe, battle-master tanks and overlords can be only upgraded to its full potential by the Chinese super-weapon, the Nuclear Missile. Their basic unit like the Red Guard produces two of them instead of one and their rocket soldiers can plant tnt charges on buildings and such.

They start off with no radar and require upgrading radar from their command center. All of their buildings can purchase mines around their buildings to prevent them from easy captures or terrorist bombings. They can build propaganda towers which heal and raises attack power for units that surround the area of it. Their main defenses are bunkers which can hold up to five infantry and gattling cannons which provided with these combinations can be deadly to air and ground forces. Other buildings such as the Propaganda Center upgrades Nationalism which increases attack, provided in a group and subliminal messaging which increases propaganda towers. Producing Overlords gives you the choice on upgrading them, whether it’s a bunker to store five infantry, gattling cannons to destroy air and ground forces or propaganda towers which heals and boosts the attack power of units. If resources are proven, insufficient, you can build hackers to “suck the internet dry” of cash, benefiting small quantities of cash at first but later on with a horde of hackers, can restore your economy, granted that you protect them well.  Finally the Nuclear Missile is their super-weapon and launching it will cause a mushroom cloud of radiation upon your enemies and death.

The GLA is one of the most deadly sides to choose upon. The fact that you can use deadly chemicals to ambushes of angry mobs to terrorists is just cheap yet great at the same time. While their forces produces cheap units that can be easily destroyed, having an army of specific units like SCUD launchers, Demo trucks to Scorpion tanks can be really deadly to your foes. The GLA relies on amounts and amounts of toxins, AK-47s for angry mobs, armor-piercing bullets and rockets for Quad Cannons to RPG troopers and rocket buggys. Their buildings aren’t powered by reactors so this could make an advantage as you are choosing the GLA. They also don’t have any air units to support them which means they are somewhat vulnerable to air attacks from US and Chinese forces, to compensate this, you are offered by building a deadly force that focuses on toxins and guerilla war-fare. In the battlefield, you can upgrade units like technical, scorpion tanks, toxin tractors to quad cannons and improve them by just destroying enemy vehicles and picking up. Units like Technical can be upgraded into two tiers; 20mm recoilless rifle and a rapid-fire RPG launcher.

Like the Chinese, they start off with no radar and require an arms dealer to produce a radar van unit. What makes the GLA special is when buildings are destroyed, you need to immediately destroy GLA holes or they will rebuild itself.  Buildings like Palaces can not only upgrade units’ potential but can hold up to five units. Other buildings like the Black Market are the main hub for main upgrades to boost your military strength and can also fund credits for your economy. Their main defenses are tunnel networks, stinger sites and demo traps; after building up a tunnel network, it produces two RPG troops and can be garrisoned and transferred to other tunnel networks throughout the map, stinger sites with armor-piercing rockets can be deadly but the use of flash-bangs and dragon tanks can kill off the units of this defense and can proven a easy target after and demo traps can be really deadly if approached upon. And finally, GLA’s super weapon, the SCUD storm is known to be more deadly than the nuclear missile, causing toxins to spread in the area which was launched.

There are also hero units in this game for every faction, each of them having their own special abilities and remains invisible until shot upon. First the US, has Colonel Burton which stereotypes Arnold, plants demo charges, backstabs enemies and can climb up mountains with proficiency. The Chinese has Black Lotus which is unable to attack but can hack into buildings, vehicles and can steal cash from supply centers. The GLA has Jarmen Kell, which acts as a sniper and can use his ability to pluck off drivers from vehicles so that infantry units can control them.

This game doesn’t have engineers like other C&C games but basic infantry can be upgraded to capture buildings. These units can either capture enemy buildings or tech buildings that appear in maps. Similar to Red Alert 2, you can acquire these tech buildings and granted with beneficially bonuses that will help you in the battlefield. Tech buildings range from Oil Derricks which produces credits to fund your economy, and Hospitals and repair bays heals your infantry and vehicles. The flaw towards capturing buildings is that, it takes longer to capture it but having additional units can speed up it while unlike other C&C games, you can just move the engineer into the building and capture it.

The skirmish which is like any other RTS game, can be a fun experience, especially when you are playing the maximum amount of players in the largest map. This however can drag the frame-rate down if your opponents build up a huge army to contend with yours but it is a satisfying experience to enjoy. Besides that, the game encourages you to play skirmishes and beat the campaign because it awards you with a medal and having all medals can be a victor of bragging rights. These medals ranged from blitz medal which requires you to finish your opponent within ten minutes or less, a medal that will be awarded if you complete all the skirmish maps on the highest difficulty to building a sizable army of air-forces to ground forces.

The multi-player is nothing special, you can either choose online or LAN, adopting the similar format as typical RTS. You can choose either a random match or a custom match that are designed by the host of the game. The online play therefore fails to compliment the true potential of this game, adding nothing to the table to a exciting experience.

The soundtrack for this game is truly astounding and compliments the game-play. Composed by Bill Brown which composes a number of Tom Clancy games, he gives a militaristic edge and memorable theme for each faction in the game. Each theme possesses diversity to compliment each faction; the US theme consists of epic, militaristic scores that present itself as patriotic, the Chinese theme consists of orchestral scores that combines Asian influences and the GLA theme consists of Middle-Eastern influences with a touch of heavy metal. This soundtrack works perfectly as you roam the battlefields with your units, mowing down your opposition.

Despite having no FMV cut-scenes or in-depth story-telling, Generals proves to be a satisfying experience. Not only it is the first C&C game has 3-D and a different engine from its predecessors but has an addicting game-play that satisfies for years to come. Having a modern look on units that are in the real world and some that will be developing in the future looks compelling and duking them out with the opposing force seems awesome. Also Generals comes with a World-Builder which you can created your own maps or go to a fan-site to download theirs. The fan community of Generals is quite dedicated on creating their own revisions of maps, with a hint of creativity. This type of dedicated can make you addicted for more Generals. The downside of this game is that, it lacks a potential of multiplayer as it plays like other generic RTS. This game is a recommended purchase for RTS fans, especially C&C fans or people that want a modern-day RTS.

“Ham-acting? Or Unnecessary slapstick?”

 Theater Review - Hamlet

A cold Friday has besieged us as we head downtown to watch a Hamlet play in 100 Ossington Theatre near the corner of Argyle and Ossington street where to my surprise, a small and quaint theatre is located there. There wasn’t any enthusiastic person to greet us just some chain-smoking person standing in front of the theatre but nevertheless I was the first person to come and clueless on where the entire grade 12 class might be. A few hours later and a long stroll around the neighbourhood begins the long-line of claustrophobic-ness as we are heading to an small auditorium where a strict instructor forces us into proper seats and lists rules that are important. After that mess has handled, we watched the play and my expectations for it, dropped an all time-low just like how cold the Friday started.

We all know the story of Hamlet – a prince of Denmark whose father is killed and his mother married his father’s brother, Claudius seeks revenge on who killed his father.

Now, first of all this play is directed by Charles Roy who also did other theatre work with the cast of this play but the whole play is botched up to a point where I really distain the Shakespeare play and seriously hate the entire cast. Where to begin, first off – the ghost who is Hamlet’s deceased father is the worst thing I saw in this play – the sense of that young actor trying to portray an old man and a scary ghost with blood all over his face is ridiculous. The actor exaggerates too much on the ghost plus Hamlet’s father is poisoned NOT stabbed or look like some guy who has blood over him. Other than that, the play starts off with the lighting which will be the most important in the whole play, as King Claudius and Queen Gertrude announce Hamlet’s father’s death. Also using doors throughout the events of the play plus the music centers most on Hamlet’s emotions – such in the modern-day version of Michael Almereyda’s Hamlet where he uses computers to transcribe his emotions.

There are aspects in the play that are confusing and obnoxious, many of them containing within every character in this play – the way the director tries to create some originality with some scenes like when Hamlet tries to act crazy, using sexual innuendoes, immature jokes and cheap slapstick humour to modernized a crazy person to the kissing sequence with the king and queen which makes the queen more like a whore than any other Hamlet iteration. There are questions that I have towards the end of the play – why is the director trying to do so much in such of a little time? And why try to convey something that is inaccurate and not meaningful to the original text?

Nevertheless, Charles Roy’s Hamlet is the worse iteration of Hamlet that I’ve seen, true that Michael Almereyda’s version of Hamlet or Mel Gibson may be weak but this one makes them watchable at least. There are exceptions with the lighting trying to convey Hamlet’s emotions and some of the slapstick humour is actually funny but regardless the whole play tries to be something that it cannot become. The young actors/actresses need more time to prepare this play – as they are the ones responsible on how terrible and annoying this play is. I was left annoyed and unsatisfied and had wished I hadn’t paid the 21 dollars to see this play, it is absolute garbage and a shameless production perceived by “professional” actors/actresses by a director that doesn’t know what he is talking about.
